I remember when i was a kid playing under 6's- Under 8's.
Three clubs had a Super Mutant Behemoth in their team.
They would always chalk up 40-60 points against us.
f**king hated it, by under 9's the gap lessened and i finally got to play finals footy.
Still never won shit and heaps of kids gave it up when they realised they were never going to win shit.
This was 20 years ago. Probably worse now.

Yep. My experience coaching around that time is similar to yours. It isn't a case of one off freaks, though most were not quite as large, by comparison, as the kid in the video. It's common, and extended through to higher age brackets than yours. Though the size discrepancy diminished, it brought more serious problems of injury and recovery, rather than simple frustration. Due to being overweight, being overgrown or simply fraudulent age claims, the result was the equivalent of fielding men to play boys. Saw too many promising kids lost, because of it. Not just frustration, but also broken bones or torn muscles, etc that would knock them out for a season. When they come back and it happens again, they're finished. They're too far behind to catch up. It is (or was) a feature of some district comp's more than others, though.

It was with the introduction of the interchange that it all went to hell. The unlimited period was the worst, but even with limited, the effect is still bad. It's basically a system that allows for tag-teaming monsters to crush kids, take a break and come back on to do it again, fresh. Getting rid of "breathers" in the form of interchanges will go some way to helping get Junior League back to where it was, with a place for massive guys in the game, but if they come off after 15 minutes, coz they're gassed, they're done for the day. This won't hinder the "actual age" issue, or overdeveloped guys, but should sort out most who are just overweight. The only viable solution to all of the giants is the weight limit.

Really feel sorry for this kid as his parents are lying scumbags trying to make a quick buck. The kid aint 8 years old and some islanders have been pulling this stunt for years.
If the kid was born in OZ and shows a birth certificate then fair enough but until then they are all cheats;

1. He is not 7
2. They claim it was his first try in 6 games, and now he has quit footy.
No way it took him 6 games, more like 6 tries per game.
And he's not 7

NSWRL introduce 21 weight and age competitions to keep youngsters in the sport

The NSWRL has moved to keep children in the sport by introducing 21 weight and age competitions across Sydney that will have major ramifications on participation levels in rugby league.

The initiative has been backed by Penrith halfback Nathan Cleary, who recently told Fairfax Media he wouldn't be playing the sport if it wasn't for the weight and age competition he played while living in New Zealand as a teenager.

The first game of rugby league he played was an open age and open weight contest, an experience that almost saw him lost from the game completely.

"I'll never forget it," Cleary said. "I came from a soccer game to play an open weight game of footy. These kids ... I just couldn't believe it. We got flogged. I was 12. A real soccer skinny boy.

"These kids were huge. I mean, they had moustaches. I remember coming halfway through the game watching someone I knew getting carried off with a dislocated shoulder. I was like, 'what have I gotten myself into'."

That following year he moved into a weighted competition.

"If it wasn't for that, there's every chance he never would have played again," Ivan Cleary said of the weight for age competitions.

"When you move house, or in our situation, move country after I left the Warriors, one of the things you have to do is sell it to the kids. That was one of the ones with Nat, telling him the footy is going to be totally different. It's only luck he was playing at all."

I'm so glad the NSWRL are doing this. Will be very interesting to see what numbers they get, and how many new children play the game.

Good move. Coached some primary school boys in Brisbane a few years ago. We would be smashed but the opposition coach would often acknowledge us as the 'better' team after the match. We encouraged the use of the ball as opposed to the opposition where the ball inevitably ended up in the hands a 11 year old monster islander with a goatee. Coaches were very 'sporting' though and benched them for the the 2nd half.

There's an even easier fix to this.

No birth certificate. No rego.

So many polynesian kids have stat decs opposed to birth certificates and the scuttlebut is that they start counting from the baptism date and not the date of birth. Jonah got baptised at 18 months? He's a full year ahead and is already at a physical advantage.

That's been a major problem for a long time, but nobody in JRL has had the stones to do anything about it. I doubt that they will now. I'd like to hear more details, also. It's a positive step and better late (way, way late) than never, but, it sounds more like a trial thing, run in tandem with the junior club comps. How is it going to work? Will the junior clubs in those districts be playing only a weight class comp? Do the junior clubs now have to provide 2 teams... one as per usual another weighted? Is this going to be actually outside the junior clubs (new teams/clubs)? Am not sure dividing players into 2 separate comps is the way to go. Just bite the damn bullet and overhaul the whole comp already. Still, it's a good move.

How is simply turning away potential players a solution? Dumb.
