The Kingdom for a Centre?

Article in the paper yesterday about how we are secretly negotiating with a "top flight" centre....

anyone have any inkling of who it could be?

it would seem this is the reason we have cleared the decks - getting rid of a fair few players in what would appear confusing decisions, including our inspirational captain and two of our better props.

I have a horrible feeling that we are talking to Steven Bell from Manly - he is still unsigned for next year.

Other than that, who might it be? do the Bronx have to get rid of Justin Hodges now his mentor is going (please please), is Sheens looking to cut Collis or Lawrence? who else might it be? please not one of the Cronulla centres....

On the presumption that the player is under contract at a club with salary cap issues, that would leave the Sharks and Roosters centres maybe?

I can't really think of any decent centres available - or many playing in the NRL, for that matter.

Apparently Doogs is deciding this week what he is doing, and is still a slight chance of staying on - which might force our hand, or more likely means he is leaving.

I get the feeling I would prefer to give doogs another run and hang on to Jess for some forward depth - unless it IS Hodges (a million to one) - I don't rate any of the other candidates above our Old Man River.

Get rid of that feeling. He signed a 2 year deal with Les Catalans Dragons.

The club have also announced the capture of Australian duo Steve Bell and Jason Ryles as overseas players for the 2009 season.

would take Gids back in a heartbeat, but I don't think Smithy rates him, and he is getting on, so why would we swap mad dog for mids?

King would be a possibility (do we have those sort of funds though), did he spend time in Parra's lower grades (I know he was at the Sharks for a while)?

Apparently King has been crud o/s??

Not sure if this was implied in the thread title, but, Matt King?

im not that clever... :sarcasm:

it was more a reference to the fact we seem to be "clearing the decks" for something - especially if we can get rid of L Doogs and Walshy.

On L Doogs, is he injured again? Are we not even considering him? How does someone go from shadow SOO player to where he is, so quickly...

Apparently not in the second half of the season

Please let it be David Simmons.

I would not call him a first grader far from a "top flight centre"

But hey the media talk shyte.

You took De Gios (which is a good buy) hopefully they are talking Simmons.

We could probably pick up Greg Bird cheap.
Get him to move back to Hinton, where he could do whatever he wanted and no one would be able to tell him from the other locals.

I don't see this mentioned on the Herald website...? Or is this one of those one sentence things they throw in on the corner of a page to fill some space?

Anyway I agree I'd have Hodges here in an instant, but I don't think they'd sign Folau to let go of Hodges...

Wouldn't complain too much about any of the others, except perhaps the Cronulla centres as mentioned. The way Mad Dog is going right now he would be as cheap as chips (you would think still cheaper than Vuna/McManus/Uate?) and our backline could still do with some more experience next year. Lets just hope that if he does stay on he doesn't go to sleep and be injured for half the season like in the good old days :p

it was in the "Hunter Extra" part of the Sun-Herald (or may have been Sunday Tele) yesterday.

the only connection between King and Parra was that his brother is a 100 game player at the club and he was knocked back a scholership at the club in favour of another player.

yeah I know.

speaking of dreams, I had a weird one last night and have to share (I never dream about footy).

we are playing the Titans, Crossy has a spell in the first half, and during his spell John Cartwright came over and signed him and Smithy agreed to let him go, and he came out and played for the Titans in the second half...

strange huh....
