Smarsh will be picked in the side until he's 97 years old. Or until he approaches one of JLs records.

http://www.espncricinfo.com/story/_/id/25162234/justin-langer-explains-concept-elite-honesty

Just five days after the publication and significant fall-out of the Longstaff review and Cricket Australia's players' pact, Australia coach Justin Langer has explained a new and unusual catchphrase that adorns the walls of the Australian dressing room ahead of their first match on home soil since the ball-tampering saga.

Anthony Everard, Cricket Australia's executive general manager of events and leagues, tweeted a photo of the Australian dressing room at Perth's Optus Stadium on Friday which had been branded with catchphrases such as "We are Australia's Cricket Team", "make Australians proud", "patience" and "pressure"

But it was a fifth slogan "elite honesty" that caused a stir on social media and prompted an explanation from Langer on Saturday.

"It's the Australian way as I know it," Langer said.

"You look at a bloke or a lady in the face and you tell them the truth and you need to be really honest with yourself because if you're not you're kidding yourself. The man in the mirror is almost a cliche, but if you want to be successful in life you have got to be able to look yourself in the mirror.

"You can lie to everyone else, but you can't lie to yourself. So that's elite honesty to yourself. And also, the Aussie way I know it is to look a bloke in the eye, look your sister or you mum in the eyes, and tell them the truth and be happy to get some truth back, so that's elite honesty."

Langer has previously stressed the importance of "elite mateship" within the Australian dressing rooms.

While the choice of words may puzzle some, the coach is acutely aware that the team will be measured by their actions and not their words as they embark on their first home summer following one of the most tumultuous periods in Australian cricket history.

"We can put as many words as we like out there, but it's the way we play," Langer said. "It's the way we are on and off on the cricket field. And our actions will speak a lot louder than any words we write down."

The resignation of CA chairman David Peever on Thursday has added to the drama ahead of an important series against South Africa.

"It's sad isn't it," Langer said. "Everyone seems to be at each other, there's lots of criticism. But we've got such a proud history of Australian cricket.

"We've had a few hiccups along the way, in not just in the last six or 12 months, but over our history. But we should be so proud of Australian cricket.

"What we can do is we can prepare well, we can play good cricket, and be entertaining and put on a good show so Australians can start smiling a bit. One thing sport can do and that Australian cricket can do is put smiles on faces rather than everyone throwing stones and shooting guns at each other."

That is honestly one of the most nothing statements I've ever read...It's just cliche wrapped in new age bullshit

Hypocrite much???

I remember when he gave it to Renshaw last summer no one has a god given right to the baggy green or something similar. He should of added unless you are from WA.

Just think the future coach of Australia put a heap of pressure on a young batsmen to quite deliberately put him off his game so a player from his state (Bancroft) would get a run. I mean what the f**k is that.

That sound have indicated that he isnt the right man to coach Australia

We have now lost 7 consecutive ODI in a row - the worst streak ever for an aussie side

6 losses in a row was the last time, back in 1996

Justin Langer has revealed he is “confused” by the ongoing public criticism of veteran batsman Shaun Marsh.
The 35-year-old has long been a divisive player for Australian cricket fans, particularly since October’s disastrous Test tour of the UAE in which he made 14 runs in four innings.

Marsh cemented his spot in the Test side after making 445 runs at 74.16 in last summer’s Ashes series. He’s averaged 13.41 in Test cricket since.

Langer told TAB Radio on Thursday there’s “no better” player in Australia than his maligned batsman, but only when he learns to block out the criticism.

“That noise we’re talking about, you can’t get distracted by it,” Langer said.

“Mental toughness and concentration is about letting go - do your thing, enjoy what you’re doing and when he (Marsh) does it there’s no better player in Australia.”

He added: “[The criticism] does confuse me. He had a poor series against Pakistan and he’d be the first to admit that but around that he does so many good things.

“He’s such a good player when he lets go and plays with that freedom.”

Marsh has found both red-ball and white-ball form since returning from the UAE. He made scores of 80 and 98 against Tasmania in his first Sheffield Shield game back for Western Australia.

He then topscored for Australia in its three-match ODI series against South Africa despite only playing two games. Marsh made 128 runs at 64, including Australia’s only century (106) for the entire series in game three.

His brother Mitch has followed a similar trend - flopping with the bat in the middle-east before making a promising start to the home summer.

M.Marsh made just 30 runs in his four innings against Pakistan, but scored 151 while captaining WA against Queensland.

“Mitch is the same. Mitch had a poor series against Pakistan, not a great [Test] series against South Africa but his first-class cricket in recent times is as good as anyone,” Langer told TAB Radio.

“They’re both very talented players and very good young men so let’s just hope they continue their good form and we see a lot more of them.”
