Same will apply once the Athletics get a stadium built.

The locals give no f**ks if the tourism dollars are domestic or international.

The Raiders, like every NFL team, are only guaranteed 9 home games a year, there is another 356 days worth of accomodation that needs to be filled. This is why Las Vegas tourism have an entire team focused on attracting events to the city, ranging from conferences bringing in 500-odd guests, up to the likes of F1, NASCAR, Taylor Swift, etc.

There are a lot of beds to fill, and occupancy is currently 89.3% on weekends and 74.7% on weekdays, which is up from around 78.6% occupancy a decade ago.

So what 8 games a year? What is that 2 billion dollar stadium doing the other 40 weeks of the year?
Obviously it is valuable to the stadium and the city because they supported this event and it was more successful in terms of tourists than expected.

Do local football tourists spend as much money doing sightseeing and other tourist attractions than someone who is probably coming to las vegas their one and only time on a big holiday blitz?

No one is saying that one day of RL is a big deal for them, but it is filling an empty day for them that the ground would not be used otherwise.

As for your statements, the ground has held 6 international soccer games since opening in 2021, it has 3 scheduled this year. It hosted 9 concerts last year and has only 7 scheduled this year. NCAA/non-NFL matches equates 5 games at the venue per year.

So with Raiders games, NFL Super Bowl and NRL then venue has something for roughly 30 day for all of 2024 (check out the calendar, you can see everything from now till the EOY https://www.allegiantstadium.com/events)

Pay an entity to fill a stadium to 2/3rd capacity for one day once a year.

Wouldn't it make more sense to find a global superstar and pay them to fill the same stadium to capacity for three or four nights running?

There is this amazing thing called capitalism that lets us compare the value of things no matter what they are….

you are right that a superstar filling the stadium 4 nights in a row would be great, so obviously the singer would would charge a lot.

NRL meanwhile can bring a smaller amount to the city, they they can charge comparatively less for their event.

Your pount is based on an assumpthat they can only pick one, but why would that be the case? They have big budgets and if they do well, the budgets get bigger.

And if, for some weird reason the dont have the money, there are 50 other cities that could bid with their tourism budget…

It doesnt need to be the biggest event, it just needs to generate a positive value that is big enough to be split pay the NRL and keep some for the city.

so $50-150mil of activity generated for a $5mil payment. Is it worth it? That is for the city tourism board to decide…

Why not? It isn't an absurdly large amount and it was reported in the media. One would assume the nrl have given the journalists this information so don't know why you are just blindly dismissing anything positive about the las vegas venture.

I have to laugh at that quote, some good spinning. When describing a medicore Xavier playing against the dumpster fire that is Georgetown, marquee is the adjective anyone would think of.

FS1 is never going to show the biggest college game on Saturday, thats either on Fox or ESPN, but ideally theyll have a good competitive matchup as a lead in next year.
