I wonder how many sniggers there will be in the Nepean Roosters dressing room the first time Ivan stands up and asks the players for commitment and loyalty?

Like any good coach Ivan will adapt his methods. Buses are yesterday's news.

Cleary was in the Panthers grandstand with the Panthers GM to watch his son play like he has numerous times in the season. He asked Cleary what his plans were after his contract with WT had expired.

Either way,the Panthers or Tigers clubs were going to get screwed. Cleary stays beyond 2020,they would have got Nathan...Tigers fans would have been dancing in the streets. Ivan obviously feels there is a premiership or three humming in the works ATM in the Panthers.

So you can see why he left...especially when 12 other coaches threw their hats in. Of course the choice was always going to be either Ciraldo or Cleary.
Difference is that Nathan was going to be off contract, Ivan wasn't off contract for another 2 and a bit years. He wsn't even halfway through his contract at the Tigers.

Nathan still had a year to go just like Ivan had 2 and could legally negotiate from November 1st. Ivan could negotiate his next contract whenever he wanted. If it's so terrible the NRL should change the rules so coaches Can't negotiate until a set date like players.

SMH reporting $250k compensation to Tigers. Seems a reasonable amount - and a fair way from the $400k, or 66% or 70% of Maguire's salary that some were spouting.

While shafting his incumbent club in the process.

Haven’t sought to make deals to work with direct competitors while still contracted for another year.

Make your next post an argument.

He originally signed for 2021. Not 2019. Players have done the same thing over the years, signing for another club but still fulfilling their remaining contracts. Peachey is an example.

Tigers panicked and signed Maguire for 2019 knowing that they still had Cleary for the next two years.

Just because something isn't against the rules or law doesn't mean it is not wrong. It is not illegal for my wife to cheat on me but I would be very pissed off if she did because it is wrong. Penrith are in the wrong here and if the situation was reversed you wouldn't be here trying to defend it.

I said if it's that bad rules should be put in place so it doesn't happen again and I would fully support such a rule change in the game. I've been plenty reasonable.

We have Peachey who is leaving for the Titans, Merrin who is considering super league. Crighton was contracted to the dogs. This stiff happens in the game constantly.

So how long until he gets leave 2.0?

You'd have to ask the god emperor.

Didn't Penrith give them permission to negotiate with other teams?

Probably. Same effect though. The player's commitment is to another organisation while playing here. I'm of the belief people can choose to behave in a professional manner.

Players are not in charge of recruitment for a club, next year or even the year after and there is a promising junior off contract. If IC was still at the Tigers who does he encourage him to sign for, the Tigers who he is about to leave or the Panthers where he may have a positive influence on not only IC's career but also NC's, who its obvious IC put before all others when making professional decisions.

He'd be signing them for the Tigers because that's what his contract says and who's paying his wage or you have someone else handle recruitment. That's how I see that scenario.

Tim Brasher the latest former-Tiger complaining about the injustice of Cleary's move from the Tigers.

Looking at the past Tigers' recent history re tenure of coaches:
  • Sheens - sacked over a season early;
  • Potter - advised contract not-renewed for 2015 at end of 2014 season (i.e. effectively nil notice period); and
  • Taylor - terminated effectively immediately 3 games into 2017.
So last 3 coaches have been removed by Tigers with no notice - and they complain about the next coach looking to secure his future beyond his current contract?

Wow, heads up their own arses much?
