Yep, the economy been struggling for a long time now. The majority of teams in Div III and above are just doing their best to break even, and one bad season where they get knocked out of the cup early or end up getting relegated can be utterly devastating and put the team back about three seasons. Even I make a general loss, and I've been unbeaten in Div III this season, got to the last 32 in the cup, and other than Finau don't have any huge waged players. I'm thinking I may have to give up my plans to continue providing the national team a player every four or so seasons, as that one player is what brings my wages up so much. Without him, I'd probably have the lowest wages in Oceania for my level.
My Wolves have wrapped up the III.16 title this season with one week to go. The problem is that I'm not sure whether I want to promote, because of the reasons I listed above. If I promote and struggle in the higher division next season (and I probably would), I'd be finding it quite touch economically, especially if I got relegated. If I stay in III.16 I can comfortably go along winning most of the matches, focusing mostly on the cup to get further good income coming in. I just hate the feeling of deliberately staying down. I already did that once in the first season I won my Div IV league, and it was somewhat of a bitter pill. But I may have to for the good of my team.
It's something that seriously needs looking at.
