From Wiki....
In an away match against Crystal Palace, Cantona was sent off by the referee for a vengeful kick on Palace defender Richard Shaw after Shaw had pulled his shirt. As he was walking towards the tunnel, he launched a 'kung-fu' style kick into the crowd, directed at Crystal Palace fan Matthew Simmons, followed by a series of punches.[11] The infamous photograph of the moment Cantona's foot connected with Simmons, was used with permission on the front cover of Ash's single "Kung Fu". The front cover alone generated publicity in the British rock press, which helped the band get a hit single when it charted at number 57 in the same year.
Simmons was later tried for threatening language and behaviour. He received a seven-day prison sentence, but was released the next day.[12] It was also revealed that Simmons had previous criminal convictions, including an attempted violent robbery in 1992 where he had attacked a Sri Lankan petrol station worker with a spanner in Croydon, and that he had attended a National Front rally a short time before the Selhurst Park incident.[12] His conviction and sentence also resulted in a £500 fine as well as a one-year ban from all football grounds in England and Wales.[13]

no no no no I think its way funny :D
not knocking, just curious as to why he kicked that guy?

The guy said something about his Mum (Frenchies are a very touchy people), thought he was being a typical cockney little Englander hiding in a crowd.

So Cantona drop kicked him... The guy was a genius. :D

He and Giggs are the best United players from the Premier league generation. Up there for all time but Best, Charlton, Law and Edwards will take some shifting from the top of that league.

That T-Shirt speaks the truth.

Forget everyone else he was the Best EVER.

Speaking of the best, i watched an old United game last night and it was from 1999. That team was just the most brilliant team ever assembled. Football perfection.

I have the 98-99 season review on tape, I should crack it out one day and watch it, and relive the treble.

Manchester United may yet sign long-term target Steven Defour this transfer window. The Standard Liege midfielder, 22, has often been linked with United and Alex Ferguson is set to make a £13million bid. (Sun)
Nemanja Vidic's agent has stressed that Real Madrid have yet to make an approach for the defender. (PA)
Sir Alex Ferguson wants Bayern Munich's Philipp Lahm to join Manchester United and is willing to use striker Dimitar Berbatov as bait in a part-exchange deal. (Express)

Doubt some of these.... the only one I think could happen is Defour, as Alex has been chasing him for a while.

I like the way they say braced. What the board of Werder are sitting around all strapped in waiting for the fax!!

I doubt we would want Lahm, Swinesteiger (sp?) maybe as we need a midfielder but we don't need a fullback.

Defour may be on as you say. It depends on how his injury heals up though. The other name i have heard is Ninis from Greece, but it is silly season.

In other news Anderson has been in a car carsh in Portugal. Out of hospital now and he got concussion and whiplash.

Why would you want Lahm, the best right fullback in the world, when you have Gary Neville

Well yeah, and Wes Brown, O'Shea, Fabio, De Leat and our new Brazil international (Congratulations) Rafael. Hardly a part of the pitch we have a problem.

So again, why?

also notice i make this point on the United thread, not the Munich thread. I wasn't judging Lahms ability at all. If you want to make petty arguments about another English player then start a thread in the main soccer area. I may even pop along and explain why you are wrong. ;-)

Good win overnight in the Community Shield 3-1- goals to Valencia, Hernandez and Berbatov, while Kalou scored for Chelsea. Good to pick up the first silverware for the English season.
