Qatar Holdings To Push For A €1.7 Billion Manchester United Takeover - Report

Dec 19, 2010 10:17:00 AM

The royal family of Qatar are reportedly targeting a €1.7 billion move to takeover Manchester United.

Qatar has landed the rights to host the World Cup in 2022, and it is thought that the rulers intend to turn the Gulf state into a footballing brand by then.

And they have already bought shirt sponsorship rights for Barcelona, in what was believed to be the biggest shirt deal in history.

Now The Mirror claims that the Qatari royal family will be able to provide proof of funds, as well as hand manager Sir Alex Ferguson a tidy transfer kitty to splurge on the market.

United's current owners, the Glazer family, have so far stood firm on their decision not to sell the club, but it has been reported that Qatar Holdings have set aside €2.8bn for the takeover and transfers.

The Mirror... now there's a reputable source. If something like this were to happen, it would be the final insult to the fans who have fought long and hard over the last 5 years for a long-term sustainable ownership model that includes the fans of the club collectively owning 25% of the shares (preventing anyone being able to forcibly take the club over again like the Glazers did). f**k leveraged buy-outs, f**k sugar daddies with oil money.

Obertan was amazingly bad, can't believe he lasted an hour on the pitch. Neville wasn't too far behind.

Dominated in the first half, think the possesion split was like 61-39 West Brom's way.

Odemwingie's missed penalty really was the turning point. If they get that, I think West Brom would have gone on to win.

Each side denied a clear penalty.

I guess that makes up for the Birmingham game. A good night for dodging bullets - I very nearly had my car towed.

sh*t game but a well deserved win. Great goals by the little pea and Nani!!

When we are all hands on deck we will be hard to stop. Anyone know when Valencia comes back?

Pretty sure he won't be back this season, unfortunately.

Valencia? He is supposed to be back around March i think. We will see, its always hard to judge with a bad injury.

Hargreaves is the one i doubt we will see back.

We have a good squad anyway, Rooney was rested against Stoke, and Henandez stepped up. Park is off in Quatar so will be back next month. Nani is fit again.

Also we have played rubbish all year, and topped our champs league group, and top the league. When our players start going again then it will be looking good.

Also talk of Cleverly coming back and Obertan going on loan to the pie eaters (Wigan) but we will see. I would keep Cleverly at Wigan for the year and he can be our number 7 next season.

Marcheda has gone on loan to Sampdoria. Eikrim has been sold to Molde (Oles club) and our loanees at Preston have been recalled due to Darren Ferguson getting the sack there.

Pogba looks ace in the reserves and Ravel Morrison if he can work a bit harder on the pitch and not get arrestd off it, will be an awesome footballer.

I'll take all those results this morning, Chelsea lost to Wolves 1-0, Arsenal and Man City Drew 0-0, Liverpool lost to Blackburn 3-1, and Everton beat Tottenham 2-1.

With Chelsea on the decline, and Tottenham still quite a few points behind, ManCity and Arsenal really are your only contenders this year. I think the biggest threat to ManUnited this year is Arsenal, personally. You guys should definitely win the league now.

Unbelievable. 5 perfect results: we win, Chel$ki and Tottenham lose, Le Arse and Citeh draw. And as an added bonus, the scum lose again.

Well that was easy vs the Scousers.

Played in third gear for a lot of the game but didn't have to improve over that. I get a sense the players are doing as little as possible to win games.

Carrick and Fletcher did well in centre mid considering they were up against 3 players.

Pleased with Evans, marked Torres well and didn't make many mistakes. Also Anderson when he came on, added some much needed Energy into the game. Owen also looked good, suprised by his pace really.

Hopefully we can pick up the performaces a bit now. Time to get serious.

Still unbeaten so not to bad.

Thought we were quite comfy untill the sending off.

Harry reckons someone will beat us. Not you pal. Couldn't score against us. Pleasing the defence held out with no major scares.

I await the outcry over refs though. Mike Dean take a bow, every game he refs involving United involves something against us. Easily the most bias ref in the game. Sending off? No chance.

I think Spurs missed the best chance of the entire game; the Crouch miss. All he had to do was hit it forward, instead it missed narrowly to the right.

That send-off was so stupid, I think when Harry and Alex went up to each-other it looked like Harry was saying "yeah that send-off was ridiculous". One of the worst decisions I've seen in a while. Hell, the fouled player (Assou-Ekotto) got up immediately after the foul was given and picked up the ball, expecting play to continue. You know the decision is bad when the fouled player thinks nothing bad happened.

Good performance. That's the sort of domination against a lesser side tht we've displayed too infrequently this season. And a nice payback for the bullsh*t late equaliser at St. Andrews. And to top it off, Citeh lost, so we're clear on top. :)
