Watched the game at St James last night. Man United played good football but wasted a host of chances. Rooney has been guilty of it for a while now and he scuffed a couple of good chances.

As the commentator said Paul Scholes is the most intelligent player in England. The England team itself could really do with his influence in the midfield.

well i guess we escaped with that result at Newcastle then...though we could have extended our points advantage with this result.

$67m Real bid for Cristiano

From correspondents in Madrid
January 05, 2007 REAL Madrid has made a bid for Manchester United winger Cristiano Ronaldo, a Spanish newspaper reported overnight.
Real, without silverware for four years, has bid 40 million euros ($67 million) for the 21-year-old Portugual international in an effort to sign him in this month's transfer window, the Madrid-based ABC daily reported.

But English Premier League leader United has no intention of selling the in-form Ronaldo, who scored three consecutive doubles for his club over the holiday period, and has slapped a price tag of 70 million euros ($117
million) on him, ABC reported.

yeah....Ronaldo seemed to do all he could to get Ferg to transfer him in the off-season, to no avail!

Ferg loves him and I doubt will be letting him go anywhere.

05/01/2007 12:52, Report by Ben HibbsReal Ronaldo talk is nonsenseSir Alex Ferguson has sternly refuted reports from Spain that Real Madrid have, or are poised to, bid for United's in-form Portuguese winger Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 21-year-old has been an integral part of the United team this season and the Reds boss was quick to quell any talk of a move involving one of European football's finest talents.

"It's nonsense," he told reporters on Friday. "Firstly, I can tell you they have not made any offer. And, secondly, it's not even an issue for us, so it's not worth talking about."

There has seemingly been a change in the willingness of Bayern Munich to allow Owen Hargreaves to leave for Old Trafford. However, the United boss admitted there have been no developments in negotiations with the Bundesliga club, saying: "There is nothing to report at the moment."

The Reds have remained coy about the possibility of bringing in players during the transfer window. United chief executive David Gill has highlighted the fact that the Reds normally do big business in the summer months. But Sir Alex hasn't ruled out bringing players in.

"I've recalled one or two young players that have been out on loan," he added, "and we may sign somebody else in January. Who knows? We may make a couple of signings. But I do think we have the squad to handle the games coming up."

Transfer Rumours: Jan 07

Despite Bayern Munich's concession that they may consider selling Owen Hargreaves, United have been linked with another English midfielder.

Blackburn star David Bentley has caught the eye of Sir Alex Ferguson's scouts, according to the Daily Mirror, and could be a shock January arrival if no move for Hargreaves materialises.

The biggest name tipped to leave Old Trafford in the transfer window is Argentine defender Gabriel Heinze, who has apparently alerted AC Milan, Valencia and Bayern Munich.

Reports suggest Bayern's interest could lead to a swap deal involving Hargreaves, who is set to return from his broken leg in the next fortnight.

Heinze's mooted departure could pave the way for more tabloid rumours to bear fruit, with the arrival of 17-year-old Southampton left-back Gareth Bale.

The Welsh international youngster is highly rated, with United, Liverpool, Arsenal and even Real Madrid tipped to test the Saints' resolve this month.

Sir Alex Ferguson is also tipped to rival Rafa Benitez for another youngster, 16-year-old Hamilton Academicals midfielder James McCarthy, over the coming weeks.

Elsewhere, Alan Smith is an alleged loan target for Bolton and Everton, while speculation abounds over the futures of Wes Brown, John O'Shea and Kieran Richardson.

FA CUP: Man United 2 Aston Villa 1

Larsson scored on debut in the 55th minute.
Baros equalised for Villa in the 74th minute.
Who else but Solskjaer made sure that we wouldn't be playing a replay when he netted in injury time.

Thank you Ole!

Bloody Hell I hate watching football on espn, they are totally rank. The picture is rubbish, the sound is abysmal and the commentary stinks up the joint.

MY OLD MAN AND MYSELF WERE LOOSIN IT, THATS HOW ESPN IS THOUGH THEY ARE sh*t HOUSE, don't understand why they are so backwards in broadcasting their soccer?

Anyhow, we dominated every aspect of the game, Rooney is in poor form, the only other thing that I am worried about is our defence, it has been lacking lately.

Larrson is frigin classy, he brings a new dimension to the squad.

A Massive call by Ferguson here...

"I'm delighted for Henrik," said Ferguson. "I wanted to find out about his fitness and sharpness and he has proved that with this performance.

"I think he can score some very important goals during his time with us. He's done that throughout his career.

"Eric Cantona did the same thing and I think Henrik can make a big impact too." Ferguson admitted his side had settled for a replay before Solskjaer's late clincher.

Its like espn turn down the crowd fx whenever they broadcast a football game, you can hardly hear them.

I always cringe whenever I have to watch a game on espn. Champions league is ok, the game I usually want to see is on sbs, with better commentary, picture and sound.
