Okay buddy keep thinking that…

meanwhile in 10yrs time Disney+ will still be releasing this stuff that bombs in the ‘trust me bro’ ratings and you’ll be wondering why they keep paying millions of dollars for it… lol
lol. Absolutely clueless. You think Disney can just keep making Dogshit shows that nobody watches and not go bust?? The MCU and Pixar money printing machines have stopped and they are losing billions per quarter on Disney +. US are in the Biden economy atm the money isn’t there like it was a decade ago. They also have to find 8 billion to pay Comcast for Hulu. Iger has already made big cuts watch him go again while they continue to push out Dogshit.

They paid over 4 billion for Lucasfilm and turned the biggest IP in the world to shitty TV shows on a failing streaming service. But at least on Rotten Tomatoes the reviews were positive lol.

Bumping the Star Wars thread.

Watched E7-9 of Andor tonight. Great stuff.

Cant wait for next week. After that I imagine there will be lots of people out there finishing it all off with a rewatch of Rogue One.

And a very quick summary of my thoughts on other SW shows that have released since the last post:

Bad Batch (S3) - pretty good, enjoyed the series overall, some great moments
Tales of Empire - very meh, of all the characters to pick, two I didn't care about
Tales of Underworld - better than Empire, not as good as Jedi.

Acolyte - it might actually be worse than Boba Fett which is an accomplishment. Not as bad as Rise of Skywalker. Make no mistake though, this is truly awful television and if you compare it to Andor all you can do is laugh.

Skeleton Crew - TBA. Havent watched it yet. I've heard its pretty good for what it is (aimed at kids) just haven't felt like it.

This season of Andor is ridiculously good.

Gotta wonder what Luthen would think of Luke Skywalker.

They'll never get the budget and freedom again from Disney but a 'Mothma' series set during the years of the original trilogy would be awesome. I'd listen to a radio play if Gilroy and his collaborators wrote the dialogue. It's three years between ANH and ESB so plenty of intrigue to flesh out with how the rebels ended up on Hoth and built a fleet. How did they get the Mon Calimari to join the rebel alliance etc

That 3 episode arc was f**king phenomenal. We've gone from "I don’t like sand" to the best writing TV can offer.

"I stand this morning with a difficult message. I believe we are in crisis. The distance between what is said, and what is known to be true, has become an abyss.

Of all the things at risk, the loss of an objective reality is perhaps the most dangerous. The death of truth is the ultimate victory of evil. When truth leaves us, when we let it slip away, when it is ripped from our hands - we become vulnerable to the appetite of whatever monster screams the loudest."

Andor is peak Star Wars.

For a prequel the final arc of Andor was pretty gripping.

Kleya the MVP of the whole season.

Best live action Agent 47 scene yet filmed which is an achievement since they've made two Hitman movies.

Best show I’ve ever seen on Disney+.

the only issue I really had was the last episode… get that this show has thrived on not being all action and being about story… but that last episode was really just tying a bow on it to make sure it positioned itself for rogue one…

I was hoping they could have had abit more action seeing as it was a series finale.

As much as I love some of what the prequels brought to Star Wars, (the scope, galaxy building, Jedi lore expansion) I think Andor is what most people were expecting the prequels to be before they came out.

IMO if they are doing a new Star Wars sequel trilogy they need to give it to Tony Gilroy… and let him do it like he did here with a lot of practical effects

I don't think they're really practical effects

Like Top Gun Maverick they're more on location shots with replica physical objects for the actors to interact with that are then CGI'd over. The lighting and physics then look much more real than shooting in front of giant LCDs or green screen.

I feel a bit sorry for visual effect artists because when they do an excellent job nobody notices their work.

Yeah I mean more practical than in the Volume.

i actually don’t mind the volume for tv shows… because they allow you to go to places which would have been cost prohibitive if you shoot on location.

but IMO… it has a certain look and feel to it… which is okay for TV but to me isn’t enough for the big screen.

that’s my opinion anyway…

The first series of Mando I remember looking great and getting gradually worse with Book of Boba looking terrible.

I imagine they had much more time for pre production for season one.

The Lord of the Rings will always be the king for pre production, physical sets and CGI meshing perfectly.

It’s interesting… abit over a year ago I actually caught up with a family friend of ours who worked at Weta for years including doing those films. He actually started there before they were even weta… they were called like Richard Taylor workshop or something at the time.

At a family dinner me and my teenage son just peppered him with questions for like 2hrs about those films.. lol

He was involved with a lot of the miniatures and some of the set designs and he said with the miniatures especially they were really experimenting with overlaying photo realistic digital effects on top of the real detailed miniatures they created.

They had done previous work with digital effects with the frightners but this was like another 20 levels above.

those films still stand up today IMO…
