just like Grimshaw did with Ben Ikin who had nothing to do with their rubbish story on his father

glad he quit after that treatment

Why would you rubbish the reputation of a family member of an employee of the same company you work for? That was a low trash act on behalf of Nine and I havent forgotten it.

Unless of course Nine had come to the conclusion that Ikin was not a popular commentator and wanted him to quit. In which case it worked. But it was still a dog act.

One of those rare occasions where the ends justify the means.

I'm assuming Fox is going to be the same. I haven't seen any adverts on Fox yet. As for Nine... does the Thursday Footy Show still exist? f**k me. Sunday Footy Show / Roast ftw.

What's the best they slot an AFL nuffy somewhere in this this proposed new M Johns show.

But isn't this project he's cooking up with Hadley a rugby league show? Or are you just talking an AFL journo masquerading as a RL fan?

Good point.

In rugby league, if you can manage to wear a suit and string 2 words together (without defecating or vomiting), you immediately become an entertainment superstar.

Matt Johns seems like a likelable bloke - but he can't sing or entertain beyond giggling in terh background. On the other hand, Ray Hadley is an annoying ex-taxi driver with false teeth and Singo's hand firmly up his back passage - but, he is regarded by the ignorant masses as their representative. Sad, but true.

One thing abut rugby league entertainment - complete lack of talent is no barrier to success.

One exception - Peter Jackson.

Oh what I'd give for the days of the old Brisbane Footy Show with Jacko as the star. He was funny and interesting, sadly no longer with us.

Agreed, it used to sh*t me when Today would have Sam Newman and Mario Fenech on.

Fenech used to get the piss taken out of him mercilessly and they would hint that he was representative of all leaguies.

If Jacko was on the same show as that shirt lifter Newman, Sam would have had to left the set crying in embarrasment.

Seven snares Matthew Johns with a new talent contract

* By Holly Byrnes

CHANNEL 7 has fired the first salvo in this year's television ratings war, with Matthew Johns to sign a new talent contract with the network on February 9.

In a heart-starter for the former Footy Show star's career - and a blow for Nine - Johns will be tied to appear on Seven while his sports variety program continues in development.

Despite a tumultuous 2009, his signature has been hotly contested since he walked away from Nine, who suspended him after he admitted his part in a 2002 group sex scandal.

Seven boss David Leckie declined to comment on the arrangement.

His signing grabs more attention for Seven's 2010 programming which has been sold heavily on the return of former Friends glamour girl Courtney Cox Arquette in Cougar Town.

Channel 10 will kick-start its schedule with The Biggest Loser and So You Think You Can Dance tomorrow night, while Nine is holding its big gun, Underbelly: The Golden Mile for next week.

Webcke to join forces with Johns
ADRIAN PROSZENKO
February 6, 2010

MATTHEW JOHNS has snared Shane Webcke, one of the most vocal critics of The Footy Show, to join his rival rugby league program. ''We've had chats with Shane Webcke to get him involved and we're a long way down the track,'' Johns told The Last Word following meetings with Channel Seven executives. ''It's almost certain he'd be part of the show.'' Webcke, one of the most respected figures in the game, has previously claimed The Footy Show has crossed the line from being irreverent to irrelevant. The move will turn up the heat on the Nine Network's long-running league program, which controversially parted ways with Johns last year. The new project, which is yet to be named, could still be slated for a Thursday night timeslot, although Johns denied it would go head-to-head with The Footy Show. ''We're still not sure,'' Johns said. ''They're still tossing it around. It's a tricky one, there's the possibility of Wednesday night. You don't want to be clashing with another rugby league program, with NRL on Fox or The Footy Show. That's not what it's about. We're just trying to find the slot we think is right.'' It was believed Johns's ignominious parting with Channel Nine had effectively killed off his beer-swilling alter ego, Reg Reagan. However, the former Newcastle and Cronulla pivot left the door slightly ajar for a return. ''I haven't really given it any consideration, I haven't brought up his name as yet,'' he said. ''You never say never, but at the moment - unlikely.'' Asked if he was excited about returning to prime-time TV, Johns quipped: ''It's good just to be back in the workforce.''
