The meaning of a Cronulla premiership

Why does everyone find it so hard to support a team that has never own a GF?

Sharks supporters jumped on all your band wagons when you went for your first.
I don't remember youse merkins getting behind St George Illawarra going for its first after they thumped you in the 99 PF or even in 2010 against the Roosters.

Why do you need neutrals support? Enjoy the week and leave us neutrals to pot shot fans from both teams as we will!! Especially if you lose this gift wrapped opportunity.

I am sure it will mean everything to their fans but in terms of the sport it will mean the exact same as every other premiership, no less, no more.

I don't buy in to the garbage that a certain team winning in a given year is "good for the game" or means more than another team winning. I am sure souths convinced themselves in 2014 it did, but it didn't.

If it means no more dumb threads from Wizardman then I'm sure a lot of people will be happy to jump on the bandwagon.

It would mean more for the Cronulla area than it would for the Melbourne area that's for sure.

f**k the Neutrals.

I couldn't care less that NQ broke their duck, nor Souths, nor the Steelers, nor would i care if the Warriors/Titans won.

The sport survives on tribalism because whenever there is a team in the GF you hate - you think f**k em.

Just like a Manly v Dragons game - i'd be hoping for a natural disaster to occur before deciding who to back.

Sharks fans know what it would mean to them, because the true sharks fan that has had to put up with taking shit from everyone other teams fans forever will remember it forever. There isn't a more loyal supporter than a rusted on sharks supporter. After all the shit they've gone through to see no success.

Anyways, it will be difficult up against the Storm. May the best team win.

Haha. 92-93 GF's were the only 2 I never watched cause I hate both Bronco's and Dragons with a passion. Couldn't care less who won. Only good thing that came out of those games was Allan Langer and his song about the Dragons.

My brother is flying in for the game from the UK.
My Dad is going to his first game of Rugby League since the 90's.
My mate and his wife are flying in from Singapore for the game, for the third time this month (they also went to Melbourne, Canberra and Allianz).
I know a bloke who has been to every Sharks game since 1989.
I can probably rattle off 20 names of people I know, including my Grandfather who we lost last year who have supported this mob all their lives and are no longer with us.
I have mates who I have sat with at Shark Park as season seat holders since 2000.
I can remember sitting in that stadium in 2010, 2011, with 4000 people there in the pissing down rain and supporting the likes of Paul Aiton, John Williams and Ben Pomeroy and seriously, genuinely questioning my mental health.
We have had to sit there and watch every other club have it's time in the sun while the jealousy burns inside us.

I know so many people who would be so thrilled about the prospect of a Sharks premiership and anyone who thinks that we don't deserve this can seriously go get f**ked. That's what a Sharks premiership would mean. Long suffering; good people who know a thing or two about loyalty finally getting a return on investment out of a lifetime of Rugby League support.

Very eloquent and heartfelt. You have written what any true, loyal fan wishes & no one can deny that. There can be only one winner on the day - may the best team win!
FWIW with fans like yourself any team is already a winner.

I probably will end up supporting the sharks for that reason rather than my normal spite support of the team that will annoy the most people (which would be the storm)

I think if sterlo is really death riding the sharks I will jump on the sharks wagon fully.

But as for which team is more unlikable it's basically a wash Imo. Storm are much bigger cheats as far as salary cap v drugs go. The proof is in the pudding there (storm won premierships by cheating forever ruining entire years)

However I've interacted with a lot of sharks fans here like my good pal surely and that miserable merkin needs some joy.

It's funny on the news I saw heaps of kids wearing cronulla jerseys and I think what does a cronulla premiership mean to them compared with say surely and millersnose who have a combined age of I don't know....120 ?
