The Morgan Harper appreciation thread

Decent squads have a decent back-up for each backline position - in case our first choice lads get injured.

So everyone will likely see some first grade game time in the backline this year... Sivo, Penisini, Russell, Simonssen (all first choice), Harper and Talagi - and maybe even Asi and/or Dunster.

Not sure about Cini or Lumelume though...

Gimme your worst Parra backline from the 2024 players available if injuries hit us bad. Let's say that we have a half, centre and winger out due to injury, suspension or fish fingers.

A challenge! Will assume our best three players in those positions are injured...

1. Gutherson
2. Dunster
3. Harper
4. Simonssen
5. Russell
6. Asi
7. Brown

It's a little worse if we lose two wingers, or two centres (or two halves) instead.

And it's not really a top 8 backline if we have those injuries - considering our top 9 forwards are no longer as feared or dominant as in 2022.

I'd appreciate Morgan Harper a lot if he never plays a game of first grade at Parramatta.
Manly fans can't believe we were dumb enough to sign him.

But I just tell them f... off now they gave us Gutho and it hits a cord as they know deep down they should never have let him go no matter how talented uptight Tommy Turbo is.

Which one of those three would cause us to get the spoon mate?

I think the issue is those back ups aren't real up and comers.
Dunster perhaps due to injuries. But I'd be more comfortable if the back ups where high quality juniors destined for NRL.

Look at Penriths back ups :
Jesse McLean, Alamoti, J. Cole.

It's more a next in line. Last year Turuava was the back up. He ended up rookies of the year.

Blaze and Ethan making the NSW cup side excites me more. Untapped potential. It's a shame Richard Penisini and the young fullback got injured. Those four in the backline make it look very different future wise.

The thing with having young up and comers is it also gives you some bargaining power come contract time for your starters. It also keep then on toes.
Guys like Sivo have nobody snapping at heel and rising thru ranks. They can afford to be lazy and not be dropped. Imagine having a young junior destined for an NRL future there instead.
