Yeah, I missed the part in Danny-Boy's pot about the newborn baby - I skimmed it because I was already aware of the story. It's been posted several times but it's always deleted in a matter of hours (probably as soon as a Parra supporting mod sees it) for no apparant reason.

I had heard the story before and thought it was pretty well-known. I was surprised that so many people think he just one-day decided he was sick of Smith.

I gotta say I hate the Gidley brothers. One of them got a flick pass named after him, as if he was the first player to do it

The other is possibly the most overrated player ever, why? Because Andrew Johns played with him and continues to push his case every chance he gets. Good player but how he ever got to become NSW captain will forever be a blight on the game.

im calling bullshit with Lyons

You sound like one of the Parra merkins sticking their fingers in their ears going "lalalalalalalalala" so they don't have to accept the facts.

It really makes little difference if some ignorant mrekin doesn't want to believe it though.

You sound like every other Manly fan on here aswell

That article doesn't say anything about Brian Smith not telling Lyon anything. Nor does any other article. It may well be the case, fact is unless you've heard it from Lyon himself, how could you know for sure

Spot on. As I said earlier, creative license.
He will always be viewed and remembered as a dog before he's remembered as a footballer.

I haven't heard it from Lyon himself but my parents were speaking to friends of his family in Wee Waa last year where they got much more of the story than was reported in the papers. As Cliffhanger said, it would be pretty unusual if Jamie just woke up one day and decided that he didn't like Brian Smith. Even ignoring the fact Smith idn't tell him what was happening, it's understandable for someone to want to move home to be around family if such an incident occured in their life.

Ahh the old friend of a friend story. As I said, it may well be the case, but you're presenting it as fact, when it's clearly not at this point. What made him wake up one day and decide he didn't want to play rep footy anymore when he's clearly in the prime of his career

There was an article about why he doesn't want to play rep footy recently.

As for the friend of a friend thing, think whatever you like. The facts that are publicly known are that his partner (now wife) had a miscarriage during his last game for Parra. After that incident he decided to quit rugby league and go home to Wee Waa where he lived and played for some time before deciding that he wanted to go back to professional rugby league but not for Parra.

I don't see how wanting to go home after your partner misscarries is something to judge someone negatively over.

I'm not judging him negatively. I'm commenting on your ability to deduce his reasoning for leaving based on something other than irrefutable facts. From what I can see, his wife had a miscarriage and he decided he wanted to be closer to his family, but you've decided it was because of a falling out with Brian Smith based on stories you've heard. That's fine, but don't come on here presenting them as facts and calling everyone clueless because we don't hold that view

So do you believe he's life is lying about the fact Brian Smith held that information from him until after the game?

The player-coach relationship is extremely important, and it would be pretty hard to trust that your coach gives a damn about you if he held that from you.

Clueless because his departure was known to coincide with the miscarriage. The (disputable) facts regarding his falling out with Brian Smith (though that was also widely reported at the time) are largely irrelevent. Idiots like Gypsy will always judge without having any idea of what a person goes through after hearing their partner has had a miscarriage.

From that article he provided his wife didn't say that. She said she went into hospital during the game, and he found out after the game. Says nothing about Brian Smith knowing and withholding that information. For all I know that is what happened, but apart from stories he's heard, Firechild is yet to prove it, yet he claims it as fact, and we're all morons for believing otherwise

Well present an article on this supposed fall out with Brian Smith regarding what you're claiming, not an interview with his wife where she says nothing of the sort.

And just for your sake I'll say it again, I'm not denying this may be the case, you're just yet to provide me with any evidence to support it
