Listening to Triple M (I grew up on bogan rock ffs - leave me alone) the other day, International Women's Day to be precise, and they dedicated a whole hour to the life and talents of Australia's First Lady of Rock - Chrissy Amphlett. It made me realise how really f**king cool Divinyls were.

As a teenager the school tunic and suspenders definitely struck a nerve if you know what I mean, but her voice alone could take a young male to a special place.

This song has easily the greatest lyric in recent memory... CAT FIGHT!!!!

I absolutely love this song, especially the guitar parts:

Wish I had caught that. I'm a big Divinyls fan. Chrissie is definitely the Queen of Aussie rock.

Was lucky enough to see Chrissy live at the State Theatre years ago in concert with Diesel and the Baby Animals. Poor Chrissy was very shaky when she came on stage but once she opened her mouth with her first note, wow, was blown away, she still had that voice, just knew it was going to be one of the last chances to ever see her perform live.

Dire Straits first big hit was Sultans of Swing. The original album version runs for 5 minutes 50 seconds.

The live version (clip above) was recorded at a concert performance in July 1983 and released on their Alchemy Live album in 1984. Terry Williams on drums gives it a faster rythmn than the album version, but Mark Knopfler's guitar playing makes it transcendent - especially the last 4 minutes or so.

What amazes me about Knopfler's playing is he uses the finger plucking style of play. That is he does not use a pick. If you want to hear some really great licks on a lead guitar listen to the above.

This song get a heavy work out by me whenever I'm stuck for something to listen to.
