I asked a few of the trolls in TFC this very question and none of them had an answer.

I guess they couldn't find any part of the game of RL that is worth ridicule so they had to invent a nonsense word.

Something to do with spitting on the lower classes. Maybe a bit of racism sprinkled in there as well.

That's my understanding as well. If so, it doesn't do the union writers any favours.

Perhaps RL1908.com knows a little more.

John Muggleton didn't take kindly to being referred to as a Mungo...even after his many years of coaching within the Wallabies ranks.

Its a term that rah rah kiddies that went to snooty schools tend to use in reference to those of us that play or support league.

That said, i haven't heard it used in a long time.

It's an old term.

Used by arseholes who follow rugby union exclusively and consider themselves superior because of it. The term is used in exactly the same way unionite, vichyballer, AFL & soccer are used by other arseholes.

Nothing to be concerned with really - just move on.

Could be from Mungo Man, and it sounds like mongoloid. Apparently champions are inferior pieces of wool, which would make sense given the amount of sheepy types going to boarding school. Can't say I've ever heard anyone say it apart from in the fight club.

Edit I like the word filter.

The last term I heard used to describe Rugby League from an entirely Union man (my sisters father-in-law) was "twigs", so maybe they've dropped the nonsense and tried to go all out offensive.

There's a guy at my work, big massive fat man, who used to play Union. He refers to legaues players are champions... except for Manly who he loves with a passion.

Whenever anything goes wrong in the sport he stabs league in the back and says it's because of the champions playing it etc, but he has manly coffee cups and lunch boxes. He's a deranged bloke.
