Frenzy.

Yeah I know about the bouncing the brain around in the cerebral fluid stuff or whatever .Normally I hate the individual observation over statistical evidence but when it comes to someones brain, as in someone whose life is not over even after his nrl career is over and whose family may want a cognitive personality of himself after said career, I think the slightest protection is worth considering . I know Steve renouf was concussed at 13 or 14 or something and woke up night after, went outside , caused a ruckus , tackled his dad who came to investigate . He was told to wear head gear if he wanted to continue playing and he did.Dont know if theres any statistics to say head gear is detrimental.... like a lot of ppe it probably takes a bit of getting used to. Also I doubt there has been sufficient statistical analysis of data ,the sample size ,etc that says head gear is not at least partially effective. We have far more statistics and data "proving climate change is man made and will be detrimental to all mankind" So I suspect the resistance is more of the same ,dogmatic resistance to change regardless of evidence.

Not so Battered. There has been exhaustive research of headgear.

Here's a link to one such medical journal article. I can't share the whole thing unfortunately as I would have to give my login and password but I'm sure itwould be in libraries.

Even if someone just simply googled "Is head gear effective in stopping concusssion" they would fine 100s, 1000s of articles debunking the myth of headgear.

This issue, in the end, simply comes down to choice. The evidence is forever being gathered, presented and digested by those at risk and like James Graham they have to decide on what's worth it and whats not.

Just like the carcinogens in cigarettes don't stop people making the choice to smoke.

Yeah ok . Maybe the NRL needs to get all players to sign something to the effect they understand and are willing to take the risks . I know with Farming the WPHS rules are nearly getting to the point that to strictly comply you cant farm. Insurance companies and politicians and public servants all love the rules and regulations , People who actually want to get something done feel hamstrung.
As long as NRL keeps up with cause and effect on ppe, fatigue and any other mitigating circumstances they should be legally protected ... however the law is never cut and dried ,...otherwise the legal beagles would have their snouts in the same trough of leftovers where i have mine.
