The NRL neglects the Central Coast.......

First of all, a few photos on the club website don't constitute the CC going crazy for the Mariners. Dressing their shops up through the season would be a stronger indication and that didn't happen. It's just the bandwagon element.

And it fades. About half an hour ago, I heard a guy ring 4CA in Cairns to bemoan the fact that not many shops had dressed up in Taipan orange for the arrival of the Kings. This is farther than they've ever got before, the stadium is old out and still the businesses don't care like they did the first time the Taipans made the finals a couple of years ago when the town really did go orange.

Having said that, I'm a big A-League and soccer fan. I'd love to see the game become a major player in Australian sport, but not at the expense of Rugby League.

The crap about the CC not supporting the Beagles is just not valid. Manly did not give a sh*t about the CC, they were just using the merger to survive and the CC public could see that and voted with their feet against being taken for fools.

Bring back the Bears!

Weren't the Tigers the first side to look at moving to the CC?

A NRL team would work on the CC without question. It is just trying to fit it in with the other areas that also need a side that is the problem.

A good mate lives there with his wife and 2 young sons. Both sons play soccer and his wife is the stereotypical soccer mum re doesn't want her kids to play League because it is too rough - and we give him hell about it as he played League growing up.

Now they go to the mariners games and are right into it, however his first passion will always be League, and I believe the soccer mum's influence will abate as the kids get older. This may be a common scenario..??

I personally don't believe the CC deserve a team whilst we have Newcastle and all the Sydney teams, and if they choose to follow an inferior code then so be it - we can't please everyone all of the time.

f**king get over Central Coast, i live up here and believe me no one gives a sh*t about either side!

How many of you people live up here?....their is absolutely no hype about the soccer side, no one knows about it.

No one wanted a league side because the league side & night life is more worth worrying about and the soccer side is been given very little encouragement, i've seen 2 shops up here with signs and both shops where smaller then a local corner fish & chip shop.

Get over it, it would've never worked, f**k me!!!!!!

Been through Gosford the last few days?

Still, there was a team there and people didn't turn up nqboy.

But there were two teams on the Gold Coast and people didn't turn up either- in fact, the Northern Eagles drew more people to NorthPower than the Giants/ Seagulls did at Seagulls or the Chargers at Carrara. Last week there were more Mariners fans for the semi at EA than there were Jets fans. Support for the Mariners is slowly growing. With a League team it'd be awesome.

btw, what were crowds at brookvale like in 2000 and 2001?

Gosford got better crowds than Brooky in 2000 and 2001

Brookvale got sh*tt crowds mainly cause the Nth Eagles werent that good on the field.

Forget about the central coast. Its OK for one or two games but the smallish population is too spread out for any team to be successful, nor is there any business besides Singo interested in the team. If Singo hadn't of bailed out the Mariners at the start of the A league season they would have gone bust by now also.

Nice stadium that I'm sure won a few votes but overall if your driving up or down the freeway just blink once and you won't even know the CC is there.

I'm a football fan so it's good to see people getting behind the Mariners, but really, I think the NRL were right not to put a team there. People didn't show up when there was a half a team, why would they show up for a full one. The Central Coast has, or at least had, a reputation for being too picky as to what they would and wouldn't support, and the Northern Eagles was a classic exmaple of this. In other sports maybe you'd be able to get away with it, but not in rugby league, as you don't see people getting all that way about St George-Illawarra, who share games between Sydney and Wollongong, or the Wests Tigers, who share games between two wide apart parts of Sydney.

What the f**k would you know? Have you ever lived here?

I personally think 17k is excellent for a 19k stadium, which is the average in the first few games as the NE. Picky? People left in droves once Manly stepped in and basically ran the ship again. Either way their home crowd average always was and still does remain higher than the Mariners if I'm not mistaken.

Finally, to suggest that this place has embraced soccer is a joke. The only reason there is ANY hoo-ha about it is because the local radio station is giving a way a f**kload of money to the best display.

Pisspoor attempt at making soccer look good

 Obviously you never see those turnoff signs for Wyong or Tuggerah or Gosford? What do you notice when you're speeding through the Gold Coast on the freeway, other than bushland and a few factories?

Maybe if you're an ignorant wanker such as yourself.

I work in the Tourism industry and I can tell you right now the CC has a load to offer - and I'm not just saying that because it's my job - it's actually true. A thoroughfare on the way to Newcastle? I'm sorry, what's at Newcastle? A museum, a park and a stinking polluting harbour with ships? Give me Terrigal Beach any day.

Kudos to what nqboy said before -

One more thing - someone mentioned the NRL not neglecting the CC by scheduling matches here in 2006.

2006 Telstra Premiership

Central Coast Stadium
DRAW: No games.

There is one trial this Saturday, and that's it.

Come again?
