Time for a draft out of Holden cup? Or do we just need more kids playing the game, better coaching skills right through the grades and a properly enforced salary cap? Or raid the SL some more, raid RU and get some decent development and scouting programmes into png and the pi's?

No short term answers but plenty of things that can be done to improve the spread of talent.

The game needs to allow game breaker like say Anthony Milford to be able to run and express themselves - showing their ability.

The NRL has moved into a lot of structured play and the fun spontaneous instinct players we had in abundance of a bygone era have been replaced by suprior physical attributes but lack flair natural ability.

Think 90's and teams identies. Brisbane, Canberra, Newcastle, Canterbury, Manly, Sydney Roosters.

The coaches have formulated a way to win football games by nullifying the good aspects of the game, it's essentially killing the flow of was once a more free flowing game. Wrestling, kicking dead and scoring more penalty goals than the opposition are some examples of the mentality shift of the past 10 years.

I may not be giving the defensive structures of modern era coaches credit but I definitely prefer the play how it was 10-15 years ago.
