The Worst Way to end A Great Career.

Johns has acheived everything there is to acheive in this great game and thats what I will remember him for, not the way his career ended.

Joey you are the game's greatest and best of luck for life after footy. :(

sh*t way for it all to end.

I think the club will fall in a deep hole for a while, because the safety net is gone for good.

All the best to the bloke who was the best.

Best of luck Joey. Sometimes the greats don't get the end they deserved. Look at Bradman - a duck in his final innings and now Johns - neck injury sends him into retirement, and his last game will be remembered as possibly his worst in a long time. :(

Very sad day for rugby league..they say that league always tosses up stars but he was our star and what a damn fine player he was..i doubt if ill see a better player at such a high level..the way he tore apart the goosters in the semi final of 2001...the way he took apart brisbane in the height of their prime after coming back from injury..the game in brisbane at the opening of their stadium...he can do no more in the game..sometimes i think that ollofness hid a certain shyness..and a competitive streak that took control of him at times..but he was doing it all for his team and team mates..
best of luck joey..the knights will miss you and the way yopu played the game

I am completely shattered atm. Even though I was expecting it.

Joey was and is my favourite player. I will unashamedly say that I was an apologist and that you were close to god! ;-) I'll never see anyone with the skills he had. The way he could control and turn a game, I don't think the likes of which we will see again for a long time. He was also an arrogant merkin and could be a petulant little pr!ck. But that was part of the package.

I think the saddest thing is that the last time I saw him live he was taken out in the first 3 mins. Then the fact he played in a really bad loss just 2 weeks ago. Not making 250 games must really sting too.

I'll miss watching you play alot. So will Jake. You made me feel great when I was down.

Good luck in the future and don't forget where you came from and who supported you for the last 15 years!

Atleast you can become a league immortal now!

I've been told that he said during the press conference he'd like to hear the Newcastle chant one last time.

Bring him on for the last minute against the broncos getting him to 250 and letting him do a lap of honour in the red and blue infront of 26,500 bawling Novocastrians.

To quote Groundskeeper Willie "I dinna cry when my own father died, but I'll cry now"!.
I was at the Canberra game and saw him run around for the last time,. not his best game but he did set up 3 tries and never gave up....Joey you will be long remembered as a legend of the game....Now just promise us you will coach Newie one day! Thanks for the memories!

Wouldn't that be something special, regardless of if we were getting pumped.

Not such a silly idea Red and Blue Knight. I am sure that even Brent Taite would lend him his turtle neck contraption. As if someone will tackle Joey high knowing he has a bad neck. I can see him scoring 10 tries in that game (and kicking the goals he needs to be the all time greatest at almost everything) lol
