The persistance with Rogers is more about his defense and genuine match winning ability ( as erratic as it may be ) than anything else. When Rogers has a good game, its very very good. His bad games are woeful. His very best, is better than Dureau's very best and Rogers worst games are worse than Dureau's worse games. Its a catch 22.

I don't want either in the halves here next year - but at least one will be.

His defence is good but this supposed "match winning ability" is a myth, for want of a better term. Not once this year have any of our wins come off the back of one of Ducky's chip and misses or up and down bombs. What few positives he has brought to the team this year has been comprehesivly out weighed by the mountains of ill-timed, high-risk, stupid plays he seems to come up with time and time again.

He does us way more harm than good playing in the halves mate

I agree 100%.

Problem is , the same can be said of Dureau , meaning you can times your comment x 2.

Leaving us with one decent half, which is what many of us have known all along.

This isn't a case of Rogers fans vs Dureau fans.

Its a case of people who don't rate Dureau debating people who somehow think Dureau is good enough to play first grade half ( let alone win us a comp - which is the goal of all this , isn't it? )

There's no Rogers fans around here that I've seen. Rogers, can pull a play out of his ass. We've all seen him do something positively freakish at some stage. Its rare, but its there. I mean he doesn't have to do much to offer more than Dureau while ever he can bust a tackle and pop a ball in traffic.

It all comes back to recruitment for next season - and so far we have signed 0 halves for 2010.

I agree that Dureau offers nothing more but at least he isnt giving away idiotic penalties so Id have him in the halves over Rogers atm given the simply horrible mistakes Rogers seems to be coming up with under pressure too.

Id be happier seeing

6 Mullo
7 Dureau

14 Rogers (in the back row rotation)

for the rest of the season.

I don't think anyone would dispute this but Rogers is yet to show this ability he was good in parts early on but has been rubbish for the last month or so.
Dureau however has been somewhat consistent and is a much better option because of his superior kicking game, we don't don't need Rogers or Dureau to be a brilliant ballplayer when we have Mullo and Kidley there to do it.
You just can't pick a half because his defence is better or because one day finally he might play to his full potential and destroy a team because it may never happen

I'd also like to see all 3 somehow slotted into the line up.

That could potentially make everyone here happy. Though I highly doubt they are a premiership winning combo.

All 3 have to be slotted in to the line up. More than happy to have Dureau start and have Rogers come in part way through the game. It's still a sh*t sandwich - just not as stinky as just Dureau or just Rogers...

so we can all agree with

6.Mullen
7.Scotty

14.Rogers

?

personally i would love to see that, because rogers could have good ball-playing impact off the bench...or we can just use him as an etra forward.

This issue has raged all year and I think most agree that we need to purchase a decent half for next year which is clearly our achillies heel but needs to be our strength.

Are you still clinging to that one decent away performance of his career against the Cronulla Sharks 2009 version?

Blimey.
So, can you remind me again when and where Rogers single-handedly won us a game? ;-)

I think we are kidding ourselves if any of us think that Dureau or Rogers have done anything for us "single handedly"...

Now you throw in the term ' single-handedly '... ???

His performance against the Dragons was first class. His line break against the Dragons and pass that set up Mad Dog was a game turning play. But then again, I guess all the Dureau fans will say Mullen put him in the gap right? And overlook the fact Rogers moved away from the ball while it was in mid air to create the seperation from the defender and then overlook the fact he busted the tackle when he went through the line as well?

It was the kind of match winning play that he has in his game.

It's not the only quality play, but it stands out as significant because of the situation of the game, the opponent etc etc.

He was good against the Dragons, however people only seem to remember the chip and chase attempt...

Which is just like last night...I mean it is frustrating defending him...the flick pass to Pato was great and would have resulted in a try if the backline was running smoother last night...but some of the mistakes and penalties are just plain frustrating...

Which I am sure is the same being a Dureau defender/apologist...that is why we need both in the starting 17 - the flexibility to pull one of them if they are playing crap, or inject someone fresh at the right time...neither are sound 80 minute players, however they are the best we have got for the rest of the year and we need to manage them adequately.

So, for the record, we didnt beat the Bronco's with a great gameplan and desire to win.

They beat themselves, and then it started raining. Obviously the boys in red and blue had nothing to do with it.

If you say the Broncs played badly that night, what about the second half from the Dragons. They were really poor, and they were even at their own home ground. That win had nothing to do with the players either, I blame the rain.

The Dureau defenders are just about out of ammunition aren't they - first comparing him to Shane Perry and now Tim's dribble...just give it up and agree that he isn't an NRL-quality halfback.

Popgun ammo at that.

I'm suprised you are so anti Rogers anyway Jobbo , given your idol , Phil Gould, used to constantly wrap him up big time... You know the Gould quote everytime Rogers was playing for Souths ...

" He has points in him Ben Rogers. He has points in him. Plenty of points in Rogers "... Gould used to salivate over Rogers attacking talents.

It was humorous listening to him fawning over Luke Walsh's impact at Penrith today too...

Yep...just about got nothing now huh...can't defend Scotty, attacking Rogers doesn't cause a dent because - well...none of us really give a rats about him either...now it's lame pot shots at other posters...bravo.

Let's see if Scotty gets a run this week if Mullen isn't selected for Origin. I hope he actually does - we need the three of them playing to win week-in-week-out...

Rogers' has great attacking talent.

I don't know if anyone can deny that. I thought he was coming good for us, but last 2 weeks well below standard.
