Both the Pope brothers have been with the Axemen team since the inaugural season in 2006, but injury took a toll on both during 2008 that saw older brother Taco miss the entire season and Apple miss all but a few late games. After rehabbing their injuries and spending the entire off season training they have both returned to the team in what Spinner Howland described as "their devastating best".
Taco was clearly the Axemens most aggressive tackler during the 06 and 07 seasons and topped the tackle count almost every game. Apple also had high tackle counts and quickly asserted himself as a good thinking player and won the role as the teams hooker. Both became so efficient at dual tackling ball carriers that many Axemen fans coined the phrase "You Just Got Poped" after some of the massive hits they handed out to visiting teams.
Both are certain to make the team as their current form continues and the Axemen coaching staff are looking forward having them back in action for another year.

Has your team improved over a year Steve?
I assume the Axemen will be using the game to test out new players again.
Are you ready to give them a shock or two?

sorry for the late reply roopy , yes i feel we have improved in a lot of areas , but playing union is not like playing league, they can say what they want, so i will try to mentally prepare them for the axemen , but we are fitter and a bit more battle hardened so i go there to win as always, and the guys are getting this team spirit understanding, so anything can happen , but we are travelling friday and staying saturday eve so we can be a bit more proffesional in our preparations and give our all , as i have said before we have great sponsors who want too see if we can compete before trying to push our way in the franchise if it happens, we thank spinner and the jaxaxe for keeping us in the mix and there money donation ,spinner has truly been a light in this country and should one day get his rewards, the usa will love rugby league i truly believe it, it will take a few years but it will come, thanks to all ,steve@bulldogs
