I only heard of the word in the last 12mths. Prior I thought woke was about being asleep and getting up. "I woke up"
It depends on where you spend your time, but I guess for the average merkin here in Australia who's algorithms don't lead them to culture wars nonsense, particularly from the US, you'd have only really heard the term used in the derogatory sense by the right wing press, or by those who parrot such people.
You might even wonder what the hell all they're on about, because in day to day lives all this culture war shit seems a lot like the whole reds under beds scare politics from the cold war, it just doesn't raise it's head, and seems all a bit of an ado about nothing.
For the most part it's just confected outrage from the more conservative right here in Australia, just another political battleground used to get folks angry or fearful about something, and it's mostly being driven by the likes of Murdoch and Nine, who are very busy trying to import the worst of US politics here.
Good luck to them, they'll win a few hearts and minds, but for the most part folks here won't give a f**k, because unless the Trans Persons of Colour Lesbian Whale Brigade start taking their jobs and gobbling up all the welfare whilst clogging the freeway with their dodgy boats, it doesn't affect their day to day lives.
