Speaking of tapping players on the shoulder...
I remember at Cronulla when he signed Adam Cuthbertson on about $200K per year. Told the Cronulla board at the time that he absolutely had to have him in the team and to do whatever it took to sign him. The bloke rocks up to training, quickly balloons in weight, turns in a few shocking games and then, sure enough, gets a tap on the shoulder from Ricky. Good recruiting, Ricky!
Or what about that other time that he dropped Brett Seymour to the local A-grade competition and said to go and find another club because he was hopeless and not in Ricky's plans. And then pretty much every other half in the club got injured, forcing Ricky to recall him to first grade, where he became a lynch pin of our run to the finals in 2008.
Old mate Ricky Stuart is an excellent judge of playing talent, if nothing else. (I'm being sarcastic - Ricky actually isn't good at anything other than making excuses.)
