Yeah, I would be fine with Merrin as one of our props, but as long as we aren't paying him the reported 700K a year that Penrith are. Merrin would be a lot better than Korbin Sims.
Spot on. Korbin Sims recently has not overly impressed me in regards to a prop busting the line and creating 2nd phase. He seems to get smashed in tackles and his brother is much better. This year Ah Mau is more damaging than him so for me we are losing slightly in replacing Ah Mau.
..but with Merrin yes Penrith payed overs based on hope and potential and people inflating his ego more than what he produced at the Dragons. People were inflating his tyres too early about how good he was going and how he was ready for origin and a great ball player, especially just after Weyman left. Then trying to be a ball player at all costs cruelled his form.
As a prop I would take Merrin back on Ah mau's money or thereabouts say up to 500K. I would consider that a win for recruitment.

I think with regards to Korbin you have to consider he is just coming back from a broken jaw.
The Broncos are relying heavily on thier new young forwards.
Tariq was considered a fringe first grader at best when we got him.
Korbin is considered by better judges than me to be the best of the brothers.

I think Korbin is a great pick up and the Dragons and playing with his brother will turn him into a really great player.

Merrin is just another player dicked around by our incompetent coaching staff.
Should have progressed as a prop only and if you look at his offload ability at its best we have had nothing to compare with it since he left.
The trouble now is the oompa loompa style of prop is being dominated more in tackles and the good teams are going for taller more rangy props who can get their arms up higher in the tackle and then off load.
I think Merrin's best was never achieved and that time is well behind him now.
Far better we look elsewhere and try to get a 6' 4'' 110kg player who has good lateral movement.

I hope your right and I acknowledge his jaw would of knocked him around in confidence but even before that he was playing better in 2016 and in part 2017, but I wait to see if he proves me wrong.

No to Merrin as he is a bit soft and we need more mongrel.
Also I remember his comments after leaving the Dragons on how professional the Panthers were, he can look elsewhere.
I hope the Dragons had a serious go for Taupau as he would be ideal. Hope its not true he has gone to the Eels.....or the Chooks.

Off topic and random

Does anyone know how I can change my user name from smurf to The Red V Smurf ?
I have no idea if it's possible to change a username. But the best people to ask would be mods or staff members. Send them a pm. From memory Willow helped me out when I needed to change the email address that was linked to my account.

I’m 6’5’’ and 130kg so I’m in with a shot.
The fact I’m 50 may count against me though.
Maybe not at the Bulldogs, I hear they are looking for players to play for beer money?
I do however drink very expensive craft beer, so thier offer would have to reflect that.

Flo is 31 or early 30's..so you'll do. I hope you run faster than Sharon and harder than Tamou and have more lateral movement than Latimore

The idiotic decision to transform Merrin into a fancy, ball playing lock was the sole reason for his downward turn in form.

The skill and talent is still undeniable.

The “soft approach” began with the idiotic decision to turn him into a fancy, ball playing lock based on the premise on so called foot skills.

Merrin used to play his best football as a head down, bum up prop who could deliver quality offloads. Once upon a time, he used to be a massive ‘metre eater’

Those last two words are certain to evoke a response.

Saint Jimmy, it was those very skills that you mention that made me ask when Merrin left just who would make the metres for us? Of course that was before we signed blokes like Vaughan and Tariq while Ah Mau, Frizell and de Belin have got stronger and stronger. I am surprised that Merrin has become just another forward at Penrith. Just as well he lost his SoO spot.

Merrin could be useful again if his attitude is right. Look at Woods - as just another forward in the Sharks'pack he looks fitter and playing much better than at Tigers, Dogs or in SoO. For those teams he could not match his inflated reputation.

Your right there SGMax , he didn’t have that toughness about him , however I must say that he did have the ability to slip the ball away in heavy traffic along with a neat step .

I’m in with a shot too, BGB’s

...... a shot or two of Gin with a little tonic and don’t spare the lemon.

Anyway, Merrin can bugger off.
He was always never reaching his full potential.
Even our Sally got rid of him cause he couldn’t perform!
He had one good season of running hard and then he went soft.
Sal will back me up!
