Nene is exactly the type of winger that haunted us over the years, massive dudes who cant turn around, Vidot and Nabuli come to mind also... always our Achilles heel letting in tries.. you need athleticism on the edge, Ravalawa is pushing it but I think thats as much coaching, and his finishing and hitups r so intense that he can be a real x-factor.

16 days till November 1st, is that new rule in play already where the club gets 10 days to counter any new contract? Meaning we are waiting till mid November at best?

Just had a tip off regarding the Leagues Club its self , from a (which I consider fairly reliable source) , That the club is getting ready for a huge renovation ........ This is very much over due and would help attract players as well ........ I hope the INFO is true , and it happens sooner than later ........
Nothing secret about it- signs everywhere inside the club announcing it and work has already started- part of the smokers area has been closed for extensions into the eastern carpark. The part I'm looking forward to is the re-opening of the Auditorium and hopefully a return to the club's focus on it being an entertainment destination and not just a casino.

I look at what is happening in the AFL atm with the trade period and draft, and then look at the NRL, we really are the lesser competition that cant bring this into the NRL. We would actually be getting help from the NRL other than getting shafted.
i could name at least 6 teams that go year after year without getting shafted.

NRL documentation: Last Right of Negotiation clause

Every player must provide his incumbent Club with a last right of negotiation for a 10-day period from the date of notice that the player has received an offer from a rival Club, and that offer has been submitted to the NRL, that he is prepared to accept. In order to give effect to this clause:
  • a) the player must provide notice to his incumbent Club that he has an offer that he will accept in 10 days’ time (subject to negotiations with his incumbent Club);
  • b) the Club can then engage in contract negotiations with the player for a period of up to 10 days, or the Club may waive its rights in writing (at which point the player is free to sign with the rival Club);
  • c) the offer from the rival NRL Club must be an official offer and submitted to the NRL Salary Cap Auditor (the contents of which will remain confidential, but the NRL Salary Cap Auditor can provide verification to the incumbent Club that an official offer has been received). The offer must remain open for acceptance for a minimum of 14 days, and for at least 48 hours beyond the expiry of the 10-day negotiation period with the incumbent Club. There is no requirement for the player to disclose the terms of the offer to his incumbent Club;
  • d) at the expiry of the 10 days, the player may sign (or reject) the offer from the rival Club.
This is the clause taken from SMH, I highlighted in red the 2 important bits..... but given that we cant legally talk to any of these players until Nov 1st... and before that 10-day period starts.. we need a negotiated binding contract signed by our club and witnesses etc and delivered to the NRL Auditor.

So we are really looking at mid November for signatures being formalised (sooner if the other club waives the right to negotiate). The Auditor keeps the contracts confidential... but maybe (hopefully) the Journos get the news earlier. The only guy on our side im worried about losing is Su'a.

That sounds promising , it's been stuck in a time warp for a long time .....

From memory he left Saints to go back to Nth Qld and may have had the off field indiscretions whilst at the Cowboys.
Yep and the form continued over in England. He took a few weeks paternity leave from his club, Leeds, and then just never came back. So Leeds ended his contract early, assuming he was staying in Australia... and now he's signed with Salford for next year. A less than reliable character

Blore has had Two ACL recos
Same as Birdy
Blore can find his way through traffic but work ethic especially in defence seems so so when I have watched a few of his games

Curran appears the smarter recruit for backrow

That's spot on, his work rate is very poor. He's an excellent defender (96%) when he needs to be but is just as happy to let others do the tough stuff and his stats for metres and hit ups is below par for the minutes he plays some weeks. He also seems to really lift for some games and totally drop off in others. He needs a tough coach and a good culture, things he's unlikely to find with us. Bellamy on the other hand could make him a star.
That's not to say I wouldn't sign him, I'd sign nearly anyone at this stage and his defence and off-loads are way better than most of our guys.

To get a draft into the game, you need to get the players and the RLPA on board. Until that occurs, thinking a draft will come into the NRL is a pipe dream. If it is going to happen, it will not be achieved by the NRL imposing it, nor making public pronouncements - you need to approach the RLPA quietly and talk to them about it without any publicity. As soon as anything publicly is aid before you get their acquiescence, the RLPA and the players will harden into a firm "no way in hell" stance.

Pretty sure most Clubs have deals arranged and ready to be announced
inc US on Nov 1
Hoping for at least 3 quality scalps
Must include at least 1 gun forward
I hope your right and if so how good are the Saints at being secretive these days. Previously they could not even hide a team bbq during a lockdown, a scuffle between 2 guys during the off season, a contract that was promised with heaps of dollars and when it came to the crunch was much lower and a rookie coach who was about to sign but in the last minutes after answering a mobile call on the way to the club to sign he got cold feet and rejected. Not sure if the last 2 are correct but the media were happy to report it just like Bud lacing up his boots in Belmore next season.

The club could not even fart without it being in the papers and now apparently they have guys signed up which we have no idea about but will all find out in November. If this comes off well played Saints. I love the secrecy as in the past Saints would show interest and next minute the player is signed with the Tigers, Dogs or anyone else bar Saints. Keep the scum media as far away as possible as all they do is throw the club under a bus.

Had a chuckle over that fart reference Slippery. But you have it spot on, this secrecy is driving us bananas. If the long wait is for some good news then it is worth it, but if it is more of the same then we long suffering fans deserve to be spitting chips.

Su'A did ask for an early release last season but was refused and seemed to have settled down a bit. I'm sure he was concerned about being overlooked for SOO.

We need Su'a and Lielua as our edge forwards. We also need to recruit two first-grade props, ones that are an upgrade to what we have now. These signings should be our priority.

Then get rid of Hunt and sign Lui and Tracy. This should then be a great squad for Flanno to do his magic with.

1. Tracy
2. Young Junior
3. Suli - Flanno will get him going
4. Lomax (c)
5. Ravalawa
6. Lui
7. Flannagan
8. New Prop
9. Ipape
10. New Prop
11. Leilua
12. Su'A
13. De Belin

14. Liddle
15. F Molo
16. Lawrie
17. Couchman

I'd say at least a top 8 side and maybe a top 4 side depending on the New Props Flanno signs.
