Too right. Even when we won, Hornby was no superstar by then. Cronk led his side to victory when barely touching the ball. Hell, even Townsend in 2016 did it.
Its the distance of kicking that we saw from Sowie that was a game changer in us managing field position. Hornby managing his forwards and the hitups. The combo of both under a very very willing forward pack was hard to beat !

Fogarty kicks long. Ricky kicked long. It is essential and Hunt doesnt kick nearly long enough.

Amen. Matt Burton showed our supposedly marquee halfback how and WHERE to kick last week. Hunt's kicking game is mediocre. Apart from the occasional clever 40/20, his kicking game sucks eggs. A huge reason why we struggle with field position and wrestling back momentum.

Game over then :)
The Mole (grain of salt stuff): Peter O'Sullivan spotted meeting with Flano this week, and Dragons favourites to get him, but Bennett (reportedly) wants him at souths

Gee this really pisses me off. What chance do we have of ever succeeding when this club has to always compete against people like Bennett, Bellamy, Politis, other CEO's, other coaches, managers etc to get the better players and other personnel who would make a massive change to getting better results for us? Give us a break please.

We want this guy to play for us - no he goes elsewhere. We want this staff member here - no someone else with more pull gets him to the other club.

Poor ol' Souths. They aren't doing so well this year, boo hoo having had the benefit of making a grand final recently (2021) and 5 years of finals football with Seibold in 2019 then with Bennett thereafter and one year with Demetriou making finals in 2023. They haven't performed all that well so far this year that they panic and get Bennett back for the next 3 years and paying him a motza.

Now Bennett is trying to lure O'Sullivan to Souths and no doubt will get him.

We on the other hand have only made the finals once (2018) from 2011 to now. What a joke and our club just lets it meander along as if there is nothing wrong! I am so tired of being deflated with the club not trying harder to get the best. We can't fail much longer please.

South didn't make the finals in 2023 and we made the finals in 2015.

Simple solution for us: get better. Get better at footballing nous in high positions, get better at putting attractive propositions in place (Centre of Excellence - where the f**k is it? Hurry up), get better at junior development (which it looks like we're doing, but we won't know truly until this young crop of talent has a few years in NRL whether or not our actual development of players has succeeded), get better at making decisions for our benefit, not the benefits of your mates (bye Haran, Millaward, Doust, Young), get better at negotiating - do everything you can to get O'Sullivan. Like ffs just get it done, what is wrong with these people

Parko you are starting to sound as though we should conduct business like the Roosters, Broncos, Storm and Panthers, surely not we are the Dragons we have our own business savvy ways :)

Was reading a post on the Dragons Forever forum last night.
One of the most genuine posters on the site posted a quote from Flanagan, along the lines of:
"Tamale has a very bright future at the Dragons, but just not ready yet to step into the big arena"
Reading between the lines, sounds like Flanagan has told Tamale a few home truths about his defence, and until this part of his game improves markedly, he will not be playing first grade.
Ricky Stuart who is out in the market place looking to sign up and coming young talent has more than likely jumped in to make him an offer.
No idea how it will play out, but sounds like Flanagan still thinks he can make it at the Dragons.

Yes, thanks for correcting me Draginzaaar. Souths came 9th in 2023 and Dragons made 8th in 2015 so we did make finals twice since 2011. I didn't read the results table I got up on the internet very well did I?
Sad that Dragons best coach in the last 13 years since Bennett was Mary who got Dragons into the finals twice in his 5 and a half years coaching.

Yes it is a sad thing Harry. Goes to show that Mary had some success even though stretched out over those 5 and a half years and his Sack Mary thread being many pages. These next few months will be telling for Flanno one way or another as to whether or not he will have more of success than Mary. if we can recruit a good contingent of players for the years ahead while Flanno is the coach.

It's not over in regards to Talagi. If this kid is smart he will wait to see who the new coach is before making a call. If it is a coach that has achieved nothing that will surely swing the vote over to Flanno a proven premiership winner.

From James Hooper on Fox News:-
It’s a big call as the Eels face a fight to keep the talented local product. According to Fox League’s James Hooper, Parramatta tabled a three-year deal well in excess of $1 million but Shane Flanagan and the Dragons are coming hard for him.

With Gutherson having battled knee problems, which eventually required surgery, there’s an argument to decrease his workload and move him to the centres.

However, his leadership is crucial for the Eels. So why not shift Talagi into the centres? He scored a try on debut in the position, and Parramatta look a better team when he’s got the ball in his hands.

Talagi also has a big contract decision to make, and will decide his future this season after turning down an option in his favour to stay at the Eels in 2025.

Regarding "No idea how it will play out, but sounds like Flanagan still thinks he can make it at the Dragons." comment further up, I personally think he can. He has already turned Lomax and Sua into State of Origin players and F Molo is going much fitter. Under Hook Lomax was relegated to Reggies and Sua could not get out of second gear. If he turns two to three more to play to their potentials we should find ourselves playing finals. I am already seeing improvements in Suli and Sloan and our lower grade doing much better
