Matterson's clubs history is crazy.
He was at the Roosters, which we know has a great coach and a winning culture but left them at the end of 2018 and signed a 3 year deal with the Tigers starting in 2019 which meant that he should have been there to the end of 2021 but no, after playing 2019 with the Tigers, he said that he wanted out for personal reasons and the Tigers eventually gave in and he then signed a 3 year deal with the Eels from 2020-2022. So you can see the trend of his couldn't care less attitude of what a contract is all about.

He basically has 2 more years at the Eels and Brad Arthur wants him there. Is he going to say he needs to leave for personal reasons again - meaning more money with another club for 3 years and that Club possibly being the Bulldogs?

He won't want to come to us for the remainder of 2021 - no way!

Unfortunately with this individual - who does have the talent it is - as you and others have said - all about the prospect of making more and more on contracts with another club that he never sees through .

What is the point of securing a better deal with another club , only to move on before the contract has been honored by him ? Would it not be more financially beneficial to him to see out his time at the Eels before having his manager send emails to other teams that his player wishes to go elsewhere ?

Oh well I am afraid that I am no Einstein so the only people who can answer this question would be the Eels fans themselves .

Molo is a really good pick-up. He is coming into his prime & played really well against us last year. We will have to pay overs for players at the moment, that's a given considering the state of the club. It isn't a secret, either. However, the reported fee is pretty fair if he is going to be a starting front-rower & probably shows a lot of faith in him.

Another issue we face is it is again well known that we have a number of players off-contract and a fair bit of coin to spend, so naturally, there will be a presumption that we will be profligate with the spending.

Hoping we can pick up a few more good players and combine them with the good young players that we evidently have. Let's hope that our new signings are to complement and not replace - this is hard when we're pretty likely to run last & we all want a quick fix.

$500k sounds about right to me, he’d need some encouragement to move down to Wollongong from Townsville plus the chance of a starting spot with Vaughan.
Mad,
if we paid 500k then probably paid overs ( especially compared to what we offered welch )
BUT lets say he replaces Merrin - I would hazard a guess and say he would be close to the 500 mark ( or not far off) So if we arent out of pocket too much and Molo should improve then we are probably in a good place and he looks like a great pick up

Francis Molo is 26 & 112kg, I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of motor he has, he’s not tall only 183cm we need another dominant prop to compliment Vaughan. We can’t rely on Vaughan running for 200+ meters every game.

I like Lawrie but he’s not a dominant prop I think Kerr is better with Ford playing second row.

Merrin is 31 181cm & 98kg so whatever cash considerations we paid to attract Molo to trade up from Merrin is an investment in our future.

Merrin will not be with us next season 100%

He’s yet to play a game of first grade so I’m reserving my judgement but I still think he’s an over hyped wannabe.

The duplicity of the NRL in bending the rules for the Roosters is an absolute joke.
Injuries could cut down Suaalii I suppose but there is no way he’s going to be a dud but for that. He is the real deal make no mistake. Players that are hyped at junior level but don’t make it are either too small for NRL or fall off the rails. I doubt either will happen, he also gets mentored by the Morris boys and Tedesco and will play behind a great pack. I hate the Roosters but this kid is going to be a superstar.

Of course I do mate but a win against the Cowboys this week doesn’t throw us in the mix near any of the big boys. Let’s keep it real, we’re a bottom 8 side, closer to 9th than 16th and it will be a decent 2021
A win in Townsville still counts for something. A loss puts us 4 points off the pace. Looking forward to seeing Norman now he’s playing for a contract (elsewhere)

Of course it does. Every win counts especially after our last 2 years of garbage. We could win tomorrow night then back it up vs Manly next week as well and possibly be 2-1 but I wouldn’t be canceling my plans for September just yet.

If we get to origin time and we’re competitive on the ladder then maybe I’ll start to think things are happening. Until then let’s cheer on the fellas tomorrow night to a good solid win and a great weekend
