.... just imagine hunt playing behind kikau mahoney with burton fox and others outside him
Ben Hunt played behind some good impact forwards in his first few years.. plus he has some quality in the back line then too. He really tore it up.. I dont say. Hunt has never been a clever or natural ball playing half. He has a good kicking game and takes on the line well if close to the whitewash. That is the sum total of his skills. He has also proven to be a good skipper.
In short he has never lived up to his excessive salary., the first $1m player I hear. Even the best play maker in the business at the time Cooper Cronk was not getting that much.. and if any half deserved that kinda coin he did.

To agree to become head coach, you'd have to be offered. So far he's been sacked by the Dragons, turned down by the Dogs, twice, the Tigers & Warriors. I think we can rule out Flanagan being appointed.
I don't hold on the history when this Board is making decisions on a head coach. Hower lets take a little ook:

Mary
Mary was a lower grade coach asked by Bennett. He then was assistant to price and assumed the position when Price was asked. After 8 years of failure, Mary was asked prior to his contract conclusion. Mary never won an NRL competition however, the Board appointed Mary.

Hook
Hook was sacked as head coach of Brisbane and Penrith but was appointed to the head coach position at the Dragons by the Board. He now looks like being sacked prior to the end of his contract.

Flannagan
Shane Flannagan won an NRL Grand Final at Cronulla before being stood down by the NRL for contrary conduct. He served his ban from coaching and was appointed assistant coach at the Dragons. Prior to the appointment of Griffin as head coach, Flannagan and the Dragons approached the NRL requesting that the ban be waived so that Flannagan could be appointed head coach at the Dragons. The request was denied and so Griffin was appointed head coach. Griffin want alternative assistants to what Mary had and so Flannagan was let go. He has since been re-hired as the recruitment and list consultant.

Nothing that has happened since then would make the Board change its mind about Flannagan except for Craig Young being appointed to the position of Chairman of the Board. At the same time, Peter Doust was given another term as a member on the Board.

It is very well known that Craig Young would like his son to be appointed head coach and it is also very well known that Peter Doust is a power broker on the Board and would vote in support of Craig Young's desires. So yes, if the club does not move quickly, we will also see Dean Young being appointed to the head coach position in 2023.

Brent Read on Triple M reporting that we are keeping an eye on Reece Robson when he is free to negotiate come November 1.
We never should have let him go. He only went because McInnes preferred the hooker position over the lock position. Yet history had shown us that McInnes is quite prepared to play in the back row at the Sharks.

Only three years too late- every club has its oops moment when a junior's talent is not properly appreciated and tears it up at another club. Thurston at the Bulldogs was the worst example of that in recent memory but Robson is probably our biggest mistake for a while. There's just something about Mary-and it isn't good judgement.

It could all be a charade with a totally different target than Hunt or Sullivan.
"Tongue in Cheek" comment OT?

If not do we have any other quality players on our roster of first-grade or potential NRL standards that he may even be slightly interested in? All I can think of at the moment is Lomax and Sua, the rest are average at best.

We need to get Flannagan now then

Sick of the nepotism and jobs for the boys

What I was intimidating is he won’t necessarily be targeting our club in amongst all of this side show.

Looky here looky here oops should have looked over there.

Other clubs beware the Big Gus slight of hand.

So Dogs are talking to Hunt and Sullivan so tapping up both halves. Wow. They are adamant in taking a Saints No.7 for some reason the scum. Saints sitting back and not taking action as both especially Sullivan on contracts at Saints. Dogs don't want Hunt, they had this chat with Hunt to spook Saints into signing him so they can get Bud. They know how dumb the Saints board are and now they will react by upping the Hunt contract to keep him. What will be funny is if Hunt who is 33+ years gets injured and Saints hve no back up because they let Bud go. Souths were in the same position with Reynolds and Demitriou made the right call in keeping Illias and Saints should definitely follow that logic.

As for Flanagan, the longer Hook stays on the more chance Flanno will go to another club hence open the door for Dean Young to come in as they will come out and say he was the best available or whatever garbage they say to justify another terrible coaching appointment. Hopefully they are waiting for the end of the season and this time next week Hook is gone. If so I will give the Board some credit in doing so.

Souths were not in the same position, mate. Reynolds contract was finishing, and they chose to not offer him another one. Hunt is still under contract for 2023. If we let him go after 2023, after another year with Bud, and Bud is ready to take over, I don't have a problem with Hunt signing elsewhere if he feels our offer is not enough. I don't want to see us up our offer to extend him for 2024-25

I expect the earliest Hook would be hooked would be after the season AND after Hunt gives his answer.
I can’t see them dropping Hook while Hunt is still mulling an answer
