Hasler reportedly been told he won't be coaching Manly in 2024 and next season is his last. So he will be available. Potential coaches would include: Jason Ryles, Des Hasler, Dean Young, Shane Flanagan and the likes of Michael Maguire that I don't think we'd really consider. Ryles has an ever-growing reputation for being a good future coach, so maybe go down that route if we believe he's ready of course. He's served a very good apprenticeship under the likes of Robinson and Bellamy as well. I'd probably rule out Shane Flanagan, don't like the idea of him coaching our club. He's proven time and time again he just brings trouble with him. So, realistically, I'd personally shortlist Ryles, Hasler and Young for the coaching gig.

My guess of what is going on at the moment is the club is backing Hook in 2023 to hold the club over until Young can take over in 2024. This gives Young another year of experience under Todd and hands the club over to him with more flexibility in the salary cap to make his mark on the team. This might explain why we have been pretty quiet on the recruitment front and why it seems like the club is backing Hook so staunchly for 2023. When news broke of Sloan's release request, the club telling him to wait 12 months could be interpreted as "we will have another coach soon so just wait a little longer". If this is indeed the situation, the club definitely has it's hands full with Sloan and Bud wanting out and growing discontentment in the playing group. That's just my 2 cents on things.

A dead coach walking will most likely not command the respect of the players and because of this, I believe Hasler will ask for an early release. That is if he has an alternative contract to look forward to.

The same goes for Griffin only he will just be paid out by our BOD and hopefully, Sullivan will agree to pull his head in after Hasler is appointed; that is if Hunt decides to stay. I have no doubt Hasler will use Hunt as a hooker.

I do, Hunt won't play hooker in 2023. Sullivan and Amone are not in the slightest ready to make a halves pairing in first grade. A lot can change in 12 months though, and once Amone has a bit more experience under his belt, 2024 could be a different story. Especially if we were to miss out on Robson, one would think Hunt playing in hooker in 2024 is a lot more likely. On the contrary, if we do sign Robson, Hunt will be the halfback in 2024.

Not sure what will change if Hook gets punted, Hunt has been signed and is currently the best No.7 we have.
The only answer is for Sullivan to get to work and play so well that it puts pressure for the position in 2024.
I doubt any club would put Sullivan straight in as the 1st choice halfback in 2023 at least.

Still only conjecture if there is a guarantee to Hunt that he won't be asked to move to No.9 from 2024.
No point preserving your career when you are already 35 otherwise tell them you want a bench spot and limited minutes.

On Flanagan, it seems to me that he hasn't been considered for a head coach position because all the credit for his past success is attributed to peptides and cap rorting....but of course the cap was ok the year they won, not the year before and not the year after.

All clubs should think carefully before reaching out to Gould. He was asked to come in and do a review as a friend and now he is causing trouble and unrest with our roster.

Hunt has been one of Griffin's biggest supporters at the Club even to the extent that he wanted a get-out clause put in his contract for him to move on if Hook is let go. So I don't see why Hunt's sentiment would change and if this is the case, it could be that Sloan, Sullivan, and Hasler will all have a fresh start.

People say that Hunt is the best No.7 at the club. He is also the best No.9 as well by a mile. Saints have good options at 7 but not as good at 9 hence why Hunt is better suited to the 9 at the moment. Simple really. Worst case scenario, Sullivan fails or gets injured and Hunt moves back to 7.

There would be a huge difference in attack if you have Hunt at 7 and Macca at 9 to Sullivan at 7 and Hunt at 9. As we all should know, Hook won't put Sullivan at 9 if Macca is fit and by fit not 100% as we saw in 2022, hence why to fix that problem you put Hunt at 9.

Hasler as coach? Not sure about that one. Look what he did at the Dogs. He sure does not know how a salary cap works. The only thing Hasler would be good for is scaring the refs/bunker as Saints won't get many bad calls or suspensions if Hasler is in charge. We definitely need someone that has that power.

Gould did not do us any favours one bit when that "review" was done in late 2019 in my opinion. He isn't doing us any favours now with "feelers" going out on Hunt, Sloan and Sullivan to unsettle the squad.

Gould is having so many laughs on us it is not funny. He has got Ciraldo and the players that will see the Bulldogs do a Sharks thing by having a rookie coach take the team to top 4 next year. Gould only cares about himself like so many people do as it is only natural so he can play games to suit the situation with our club. Ciraldo being signed to the end of 2027 shows that the Bulldogs have so much faith in him that once he gets the team firing they will maintain top 8 status for several years. Players would be keen to join the club.

This is what we are in need of. Someone who has the acumen and can actually run the football club with a very good knowledge on what is needed for success without any interference from the administrators. We need to build a strong foundation with the best people to run the football side of things and not be hoodwinked and not feel threatened if positive results are not achieved immediately. We have to be able to get the right players at the club who actually want to play for the club and want nothing else but to win most games in the seasons ahead.

No jobs for the boys. Earn your money through hard work leading to success.

As I've said before, Hasler is quite good at getting the best out of his players but because he is a control freak he will put somebody offside whether it is a player or a club official. He might need a complete break from coaching any club for a while so that he can come back refreshed and with new ideas.

He would be far superior than Hook. He will cost more but the results would be positive in my opinion. Des Hasler’s arrival at Belmore a decade ago set the club on a path to two grand finals. The pursuit of success led to a spectacular fall for the once proud club, which is only now starting to get back on its feet. So the trick would be to only sign him for 3 years and certainly not for 6 years as per his stint at the Bulldogs from 2012 to 2017.

Hasler doesn’t have to do anything: Sit tight and play out 2024. Tide may turn and if he has a good year, he’ll again be in demand at the end of next year somewhere; just has to observe the coaching landscape next year. Feel he’s pretty tight with some of the Manly players so i dont think he’ll lose respect with the core group.

Not so sure. Titans got rid of their most experienced half (Fogarty) and went backwards. Newcastle got rid of their most experienced half (Pearce) and went backwards. You run a risk unless one of your halves has the right level of experience. Two young halves could be a recipe for disaster.

I would rather have a season of Sloan, Amone, Sullivan and a few more rookies having game time and preparing them for the future than watching the same shite year after year of "experienced" players finishing anywhere between 9-16th, i would rather finish out of the 8 with the "rookies" and see some pathway that we are heading towards instead of the crap we have had over the years.

Yes, but it is the Manly Club politics that will do everything. Hasler will be shown the door for political reasons. Hopefully, Saints will hire Hasler for desperate reasons.

I cannot see Hook surviving this. It's clear he is gone for 2024, but the blow up we've seen from Sullivan, Sloan and perhaps the rest of the squad through the awards night says something has to give. There is no way both Sullivan and Hook co-exist at the Saints in 2023.

I am assuming we have some kind of plan for 2024, but that can't be bought forward for whatever reason.

From a coaching perspective, we have to be realistic. History has told us there isn't much interest in the job. I would be baffled to see Young back at the Dragons given how well the Cowboys are going, if he sticks it out there he gets a better club in 2-3 years, Hasler isn't stupid and the other contender Flanagan has been bypassed 30 times by so many clubs. We also need to remember Bellamy hasn't got long left, all the good young coaches will be waiting him out.
Where has been the blow up only from hack jurnos

Saints won't get rid of Hunt, just move him to hooker. If they struggle they put him back to half. Titans and Knights got rid of their halves all together.
