I can't see any competent new coach keeping Hunt at 7. He'll be shifted to 9, Macca will retire early and Bud will be 7.

Only the stubborn dinosaur Hook, would keep Hunt at 7, Macca at 9 and let Bud leave. Hook doesn't care because he wont be there past 23.

Not if the deal Hunt signed ensured him of playing 7 until the end of his contract.

The Club should shut this story down by stating that Griffin is gone and Hasler is our new coach. From there on, it will be up to Hasler who plays where. But there is also a real need to ensure the players are fully fit so that they don't get puffed out halfway through a game.

Yes, RedVee, Sullivan did agree to remain at the Dragons to 2025 and signed the contract last November but I am not so sure that it was done by Zoom. My interpretation of what was said in the Foxsports article is that both parties will now discuss the situation via Zoom, but you could be right that they might go back to a Zoom call last November during which the club said that Sullivan would be the half in 2024.

Just have to wait and see now.
Weidler (I know) in the Sun Herald yesterday said Sully was promised no Hunt after 23 via zoom when negotiating his contract

I know im old school but how can you tell someone they will be the starting in the top 17 what if they are not putting in at training or play well in trials the media are shi?
And how do they sign a player that has only had one good season and sign him for close to a mill .....

Well from all of this I and others can see that we will be royally stuffed (not by King Charles III or Saint George) in 2023. Hunt says that if the team does well at the start of the comp next year then Hook could be extended but if not then Hook is gone. Hunt has put the idea in the players' minds now and they will make sure that the team loses all games at the start to make sure Hook is hooked.

Hook would have had a lot to do with Hunt's new deal and he has created a mess. There is absolutely no way that Hook will play Hunt at 9 next year. He will use Liddle and Macca and even Mbye in that hooking role not Hunt and not even Sullivan. In my opinion Hook is not liked by Sloan and Sullivan and other guys in the squad. He isn't the type of coach that can express any empathy for the kids and isn't able to encourage each one which is needed to strive to be better.

If they are going back to the Zoom call made last November at which time Sullivan was told that he would be the 7 in 2024 and the club has gone back on their word, then Sullivan has a good case in getting out of his contract to the end of 2025 in my opinion.

The saying is that you don't follow the players but the club so if Sullivan and Sloan leave, so be it and just like Saab and others, that's life. We as a club just have to hope that we have other prospective juniors who can be "truthfully" told that they are wanted and not told bullshit.

The Zoom meeting mention was during contract talks a year ago
Try to keep up with the adults.
My apologies to young Sullivan for misconstruing the correct circumstances of his meeting with the Dragon management and more importantly the fact that it was the initial meeting of a possible extension and not the latest .

However I stand by what I said about a contract being honoured - regardless of what he was supposedly told by the club’s officials at the time .

His contract expires at the end of season 2025 , not season 2022 . Perhaps one should wonder what makes him believe that he will gain a position in another NRL team ?

I agree with shutting the story down possm but Sullivan will have a case to enable him to be released in my opinion so the stories will continue until he is. In the case of Hasler, I'm told that in some ways he is very good at getting the best out of his players but because he is a control freak, he'll always put somebody offside whether it be a player or club officials. What Hasler needs is a complete break from coaching any club for a while so he can come back refreshed and with new ideas. Maybe he would be good for 2024.
I agree that the players need to have better fitness and conditioning staff working on the players so that they are very fit and not peter out so often.

More importantly who would actually promise that another player would not be here when they tried so hard to keep said player
Or they did not plan for Hunt to have a stellar year
Why dont Weidler release the zoom meeting video if he knows so much so we can all see for ourselves

All hypothetical. The club could over-rule Hook and so, Hunt might play 9 with Sullivan at 7, it all depends on attitude, fitness and form during the off-season. If Sullivan and Sloan have any sense at all, they would prepare themselves to the best possible standard in an effort to make first-grade or win a release and a contract elsewhere.

Craig Young should step in and sack Griffin for no other reason other than he has lost the dressing room. Don't waste another off-season with Griffin in charge. Young should then approach Hasler or Flannagan and offer a 3-year deal with the option of a further 2 years in favor of the club. Do this now while we still have the chance of signing a couple of good players.

There is no good reason to delay the appointment of a new head coach.

Matt Johns put his 2 bob worth on the Saints not attending the presentation night and said for 27 guys to not turn up they are pretty tight and probably did this to send a message to the club.

It was an interesting take on this which I never thought of but does make some sense.

If the club are dumb enough to let this fester any longer then it is more bigger issue than we all think. It is not just Sullivan and Sloan that are pi$$ed with what is going on.

I cannot see Hook surviving this. It's clear he is gone for 2024, but the blow up we've seen from Sullivan, Sloan and perhaps the rest of the squad through the awards night says something has to give. There is no way both Sullivan and Hook co-exist at the Saints in 2023.

I am assuming we have some kind of plan for 2024, but that can't be bought forward for whatever reason.

From a coaching perspective, we have to be realistic. History has told us there isn't much interest in the job. I would be baffled to see Young back at the Dragons given how well the Cowboys are going, if he sticks it out there he gets a better club in 2-3 years, Hasler isn't stupid and the other contender Flanagan has been bypassed 30 times by so many clubs. We also need to remember Bellamy hasn't got long left, all the good young coaches will be waiting him out.

It would be good to know if a transcript of the zoom call is available and who was the person who supposedly offered Sullivan such an assurance. Whoever that is, should be sacked now. let's hope it was Craig Young, Peter Doust or Griffin.
