After setting the world on fire in the nines and then in his debut season he looked quite ineffective and too slight before in the follow up performances.

On his return from injury however Cody seemed to be a new player and was really becoming a threat late last season, claiming the number 1 as his own. using his pace and synchronising with the halves in the Dufty style. Also it was evident how popular a team member he was.

His diagnosis is horrible on a personal level and will really hamper our attacking options unless Sloan can reach his potential.

Wish Cody the speediest of recoveries, had just read his progress was advancing well and then this....congrats media!

Does this mean we now have 25 players in the top 30 squad with Ramsey and Amone out… as I believe we still had 3 spots open?
Our depth is going to be badly exposed when we pick up a few injuries.
Also what’s the story on salary cap dispensation with the pre season loss of both of those players..

Jury still out on the Amone situation and we will know nothing much until the case hits court and he enters a plea.

Ramsey unless retired on medical grounds remains part of our cap for the duration of his contract in other words treated as an injured player no cap relief.

Hmm perhaps he could be retired and then make a comeback, if able to return to his playing fitness. Tough for Cody but geez we are screwed before a whistle has even been blown 😭
Interesting idea and I know Souths did / tried to do something similar with Ingliss and just don't remember how that all panned out as he did go onto to ESL.

Means he has to sign a stat Dec saying he won't play NRL again...
Also would you give up 750k plus
Like Inglis did medically retired and played again, did Sam Burgess do the same as well cant remember..
He can sign the Stat Dec in good faith and if he can make it back all good and well and im pretty sure if he is medically retired he gets paid it just doesnt go into our salary cap.

Inglis did not officially medically retire
There is a difference with his sus retirement
He got some payment or similar but Souths got cap exemption
Sam did not come back either
Cody nor the club will not go down that road yet
And I am happy about that as he may come back

Has to be backed up by medical evidence. Doctor / Specialist has to advise that it's unlikely he'll ever play again. At his young age, that's unlikely by the sounds of it (because it's not true). This is the only way to get salary cap dispensation.

“In good faith”. I think you’ve hit the nail on the head.
It’s not as if we are trying to pull the wool over the NRL’s yes. Cody’s health issues are well documented. And with his remaining contract (I think until 2024) and so much uncertainty whether he will actually play again, it is not unreasonable to medically retire him. This is completely different to the South’s situation where Inglis and Burgess were on huge dollars and lengthy contracts that would have put a huge dent in their salary cap. That was an attempted rort (successful) to circumvent the salary cap.
