I don’t get the bought not bred stuff. Who cares how you build your team, as long as you are successful. Us saying bought not bred just sounds like sour grapes. It’s like rival fans calling us St Merge and disregarding our St George premierships saying we’ve only won one comp.
It costs the Dragons a lot in time and money to manage their junior pathways and associated programs. In addition as an NRL club, we take a risk when we select inexperienced juniors at the NRL level.

In addition in many cases, other clubs just recruit players we have developed without incurring all of these costs so, we are at a distinct disadvantage.

I say the clubs that manage player development programs like ours should be fairly compensated and clubs that do not have such a program should be made to pay their fair share.

You hate to give them credit but... what a way to build your culture and the closeness of a squad.
I have watched this episode and to be truthful I didnt see them do anything different to what has been done at the Dragons over the preseason in years past. Talking about resilience etc, every club has those meetings. I'm still of the firm belief that embracing culture be it your own or someone else's has to be an individual thing, how much you want to allow it into yourself, how much you want to give of yourself and expect from your team mates. Being respectful and respecting others for their beliefs and the primary one which is no one is above the game. I just witnessed islander presentations and my thought went to young Amone, what respect has he got of his own culture, family and team mates and ultimately the Dragons and Rugby League. Then again you have to ask yourself the question of how his father was involved in the situation, it was more a learned example rather than a cultural experience.

In 2015, Kiraz was a member of the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs under-15 Summer Development Squad. In 2018, he was a member of the under-17 Winter Development squad. In November 2018, he was named in the St. George Dragons SG Ball Cup train-on squad. On 6 February 2019, he was named in the team's final squad, and played eight games and scored three tries during the season.

2019

In June, Kiraz signed a three-year contract with the North Queensland Cowboys, beginning in 2020.

On 22 June, at 17-years old, Kiraz made his international Test debut for Lebanon, coming off the bench in their 58–14 loss to Fiji at Leichhardt Oval. He set up his side's third try just two minutes after coming onto the field.

On 10 October, he was named in Lebanon's 2019 Rugby League World Cup 9s squad.Kiraz played just one game in the tournament before being disqualified for being under the age of 18. While the International Rugby League allows players 16 or older to play in Test matches, the National Rugby League, who ran the tournament, stipulates that you must be 18 to play. Kiraz, who would not turn 18 until November.

2020

In 2020, Kiraz moved to Townsville but played just one game for the Townsville Blackhawks Under-20s side before moving back to Sydney after the competition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

2021

In 2021, Kiraz joined the Newcastle Knights on an NRL development contract.
Yeah i know Kiraz playing history, still consider him a Bulldog junior.

Because the Bulldogs motto was bred not bought. But they don't.
OK, but so what?
They've changed their ways, they are no longer bred not bought, you cant blame them or try to shame them for it right?
It annoys me when Sharks supporters say St Merge, only won one comp etc etc because they are trying to shame us for being a joint venture.
Us saying bought not bred is just a bit of jealousy, good on them, their fans will happily buy their way to the top 8, beats where they've been...

Sadly the days of building a club on local juniors is long, long gone.

Seems to be working fine for the Panthers.
That situation comes along only every now and then.

They are now getting raped and pillaged and will slip down the ladder whilst the "buy me a premiership" teams have the ascendency over the next few years.

Meanwhile other clubs with nurseries will come through in a few years time only to suffer the same fate.

That's why the Brown & Bennett years were somewhat a failure for mine as we should have bagged a couple of pennants on the back of that stellar period of juniors and judicious signings.

this is the point of the salary cap though... it was literally brought in for these situations. Its how teams manage it which keeps them on top.

Yes that was the initial purpose of the salary cap but then TPA's were allowed as a means to get around it.

So it doesn't matter one iota how well you manage your cap if you don't have TPA's or run the gauntlet of cheating the cap then you will look exactly like we do.

The salary cap needs to be updated, there needs to be a "reward" for clubs who produce juniors, spend all that time effort and resources to develop them and then have clubs pillage them, Steve Crichton is a good example, a percentage of his contract should have been taken off the salary cap, whether that is 20% , 25% which gives the panther's a chance to keep a player they have developed.

Agree.
Maybe a fee such as 10% of the new contract has to be paid by the club to the previous club.🤷🏼‍♂️

To me it’s the cap working as it’s intended to work. The people who spend on juniors will always do well as a good local player will stay loyal and not look outside until it’s 20% higher at least. Penrith just had a lot of them and Crichton would have been on a lot less than what he’d make outside. Panthers now need the next lot to continue that growth but it’s hard …gives the other teams a chance. Roosters in particular would be a red hot shot.
