Bangers, Crackers & Tom Thumbs in a letterbox and .........................RUN!

Sorry folks for steering off course ......... back to the rumours!

These really bring back memories.....
I still remember the numb feeling you got in your hand when you didn't throw one away in time.
Later on there were "Poppas" I think and they would go off when you stepped on them.
Not so powerfull but loud enough. I would set them up all over the kitchen under mats and wait for Mum to step on them.
Just as fireworks were being banned I bought a mixed bag of about 50 pieces which I thought I would keep for a worthy celebration. Its still unopened and I don't think they would be safe to set up after so many years.

I reminisce with a work colleague about the Sunnyboy Ice blocks and how you could win a free one if yours had yellow writing on the inside of the wrapper.
I also miss Triple Treat Ice creams and the Golliwog biscuits.

Yep back to rumours.....I rate Norman as a 5/8 and hope we get him. Its up to the coach and management to
make sure he has the right behaviour and attitude.

You just reminded me - Vienna Chocolate Ice Creams in a little cardboard bucket - my father used to send me up to the local servo on my bike occasionally to get some. Also liked the'Big Charlie' bubble gum sticks and I remember buying the first one from a local milk bar as the sales rep dropped off the first delivery to them.

And OKB, my mate had a Malvern Star Dragster bike in gold with Sturmey-Archer gears. Like you, I had a 'normal' bike bought for $10.00 - 26 inch if I remember correctly.

I was a fan of the Vienna Chocolate ice creams too. They were made by Streets. They should bring them back. I was also a fan of the Hazelnut Roll ice cream, Eskimo Pie, Supernatural and the Swiss Splice which was similar to a Monaco Bar, but better. I would like them to bring back all of the ones I mentioned.

I also had a Malvern Star Dragster in purple. I then got a Mongoose BMX with Tuffs.

Triple treats yum yum.
The ice cream brick in the greaseproof wrapper with the two wafers.
Where were you when the dreaded Mr Whippy van playing greensleaves 1st appeared?
Neddy the plastic horses in the Wheeties pack.
Ipana’s Bucky Beaver colouring in competition.
The 2UE suburb where you live cash competition where they set up a van in a petrol station and handed out envelopes and if you are lucky a $10 or $20 note inside.
When we got to our teens the Oh Oh Razamattaz add wow she had great legs.
Waiting at the newsagent for RL week to come in.

I had a normal street 26” bike
The front wheel and frame came from the Riverwood tip and the back wheel (freewheel) from the Peakhurst tip
Both wheels had small buckles and I had to buy a spoke spanner and some spokes to fix them as best as I could
Originally painted it Silverfrost which was the metal work undercoat prima Dad used

All these memories with the ice creams, lollies etc are great.
Loved cracker night, unless you were too slow to throw the bungers.
My mates & I would put a bunger or two in a letter box to get their attention & then at the same time put sloppy dog droppings in a paper bag & set fire to the bag & leave it on their door steps then watch them stomp on the bag to put the fire out.Yea I know, childish & probably wrong but we got plenty of laughs out of it.We also got chased a few times

Well said, SGMax.

When l was in fourth class at Saint Patricks, I can still remember one lunch time in 1970.
I had a Glug ( cola version of a Sunnyboy ).
After eating the iceblock, I noticed the special yellow writing which stated, A FREE Sample.

One of my mates must of thought of it cause l know l didn't have the brain to think of it.
With the 'mums' working the canteen, it was decided that we would tear off a bit of foil wrapper with yellow print on it, so instead of only getting one free sample, the six of us went up after the next, each with their own yellow text on a bit of foil wrapper and got a free sample each!

There's nothing like a private school education!

I know, l flunked kindergarten and had to repeat ............. in truth, l was sick for half of the year.
Also, back in those days, we did maths in kindergarten, no bull.

Ahhhhhhhhh, those were the days!

You must of come from the higher side of the street, OT.
Us lessor counterparts didn't have the privileged of being able to visit multiple tips.
Sounds like your paint production was more up market as well.
Sheer luxury l say although my 'hand me down' bike was a 28" .............. just saying.

I can still remember the first week back at school.
I had been ungraded to my older brothers' bike, metallic red paint with pin stripes and chrome bike rack on the back for carrying sweet Fanny Adams,

It was raining, I was waiting at the lights opposite my home on the Princess highway.
A large bus came along and stopped next to me at the red light.

The lights changed to green, as l went to go straight ahead, the bus decided to turn left and my bike went straight under the back wheels of the bus. I managed to jump out!
The bus kept going and l was left to my mangled newer bike, at the side of the road, in the rain.

The next day, I was reacquainted with the old discarded, hand painted 28" sack, that was my former bike.
I can still remember the look on my mums face when l told her about the 'newer hand me down' bike going under the bus.

No Slater & Gordons solicitors around back then!

Did someone mention anymore news on Norman?

All this wonderful nostalgia about triple treat ice creams, Choo Choo bars, penny bungers, panel vans & drive-in movies. Sure brings back great memories & virtually sums up every visit to Caringbah drive-in. Plenty going off like bungers!!
I use to hate when my girlfriends parents would ask.....so how was the movie & what was it about!! Awkward :flushed:

We used to go to Chullora and Bass Hill and loved it when you could smuggle a couple in, in the boot.
The white coat officials and their torches with the red lens shining to telling you where you had to go.
Remember seeing Mary Poppins, Big Red & Captain Nimmo with the family but by the time the late 60's early 70's came around we went plenty of times with mates etc but you couldn't see anything for the fogged up windows lol.

So just heard a rumour from someone who is close to the nrl community that a senior player at Dragons is about to be in a whole world of trouble with the law, much worse than Jarrod Hayne was the quote.
I find it hard to believe personally given how clean our guys seem to be but its a bit of a worry.
He also said Flannigan is gone.
