Guys have repeatedly said on here ..the only way to compete against the Best is go after the best available ..
Shopping list
Munster
Haas
Pangai jr
Fifita
Liam Martin
Robson etc etc
In Dragons fashion we go for the John Wests , the ones others discard ..
Go for quality not quantity
Imagine Haas complimenting Lawrie in the Front Row ..Gives us real steel and respect
Way to go ..Can always Dream
Dreaming doesn't cost money, Haas will and so will all of the others but I know what you mean.

In my opinion we do have to spend on quality but not to break the bank so picking and choosing and actually being able to get those few quality players is getting tougher now and even Mr Bennett isn't having much success so what are our chances?

Liddle
Andrew McCullough is one of the best guys u can have off the field - clean skin for his entire career spanning 15 years - but on the field he is nearing the end and Liddle I think is a decent replacement without breaking the bank
Liddle is a very good Footballer. Only 25 yet with 6 years experience in the NRL. A perfect stop-gap replacement until Connor M & the like come through. Reminds me of Gary Longhurst & Simon Woolford who we got from their respective Clubs to fill a void.

There is no way we are getting Robson. He's been brilliant at the Cowboys and they are a club and team on the up. He's probably next in-line for origin, too. Even though I love the club, why on earth would any young player come to the Dragons? I know we signed Su'a and Suli and granted, they've been our better players, but did we pay big overs for them? They were both essentially unwanted by their clubs, at least in a fiscal sense anyway.

Even with the salary cap, the thing about being perennial cellar dwellers is it is so difficult to get out of the rut in terms of signing players and coaches and we are seeing the result of that now with Griffin, Woods, Mbye and Burgess etc.

Even being in a club that is going backwards has a big impact on you as a young player, or coach. We've seen Robson and Wishart kicking on in good clubs and structures and the same can be said about Hornby and Young, too.

Each year that comes there is hope and each year that goes there is frustration. Following the Dragons is becoming increasingly frustrating and disheartening. We trust our club to do the right thing with everything possible to get us where we have pined for over the past 10+ years.

Coaches and players we have and will have will be average as there are no others who would pride themselves to come here. Even Dean Young would be reluctant as he currently is experiencing success with the Cowboys and if Bennett can get him to go to the Dolphins under him, what more can he ask for. The Dragons could be a distant thing to him and the same applies to Ben Hornby who has experienced success under Bennett and now Demetriou at Souths.

Getting one or two "better" players at a higher rate might help with the keeping of the "good" ones we already have. That just might help to create a better balance for the team.

Each year we think that we will do well but we are let down time and time again. We get to the last 8 or so games and hope that we win more than we lose so that we can make the top 8. The top 8, not the top 4. I don't think that we have any chance of making the top 8 this year and maybe not for a couple more - I just cannot see it.

I have a feeling that we will have Hook longer as there doesn't appear to be anyone else better who will want to come to us. I was hoping for the untried but great potential Ciraldo but he will be off to the Bulldogs and to me will only take a few years to win a premiership.

We know that we have to be patient. Webb and Co.will get us there, be patient like the last 10 years, maybe for the next 10 years. By then, I will be a patient in the infirmary for the insane.

Half the problem is that they - the board - seem to run the Dragons as if it was in the junior rugby league system.

As many have come to realize they do not possess a plan for the teams future success , whether that be for next season or for a few years time .

You cannot tell me that constantly buying players who are in the twilight of their careers is laying a platform for the future . The young ones from our junior teams yes , but once again they are subjected to the whims of the coach and of course their own ability .

All in all it appears that the club goes through the motions season in , season out - sell club membership , sign corporate sponsors , sign a few bargain basement price players , sell raffle tickets , ensure that St.George Illawarra remains in the NRL and retain their places on the board .

All of that is enough to bring home a good annual salary , plus the yearly supply of Crown Lager and they are laughing . 😳

Just mentioned on SEN Radio
Peter Gentle Dragons assistant Coach and Defensive Coach sacked ......
Hopefully the deadwood is starting to be swept out of the Club
The search now begins for a deputy
I guess
Browny
Bazz
Potter
Hannay
for starters
any would be ideal

SMH have a story on it -

So at long last the club has realised that both our assistants have been shit. These guys are the ones that do most of the ground work and facilitate in getting our players to implement their ways in defence and attack whilst Griffin, who relies on them, cops most of the blame.

I'm surprised that it has taken this long for the club to take this action but it is better late than never and hopefully the club will do their due diligence in getting the right replacements to assist Hook, not just anybodies but ones that can benefit our chances of being successful.

As Webb said - "We’re looking for the right structures supporting our coach in 2023,” - so look hard at the next selections Webb. This is probably the most important thing that has come out of the last meeting they had. It is something that we have known for ages that Gentle and Head just lack a lot of skill.

The likes of Barrett as our attacking coach could be one and I'm not too sure about the defence guy who will be very important to improve our defensive woes. Nonetheless, 2023 could be a year in which we will be rejoicing.

Yes agree,
I also like Bazz, with Dean Young as defensive coach.
After all the Cows defence is top shelf .
