no mention of why we failed to get him .. apart from him wanting 3 year deal but apparantly nobody willing to offer that . do we maybe forget to have the contact signed or do we honestly not chase hard enough ? WE DONT have the luxury of picking and choosing or not moving on dollars Maybe like posted earlier flanno has now set his sights on someone else well he better land someone we cant keep being left at the alter all the time
He has to want to come to Saints

If he isn’t interested, we are better off blooding Tonga and Stewart

We will struggle for 2 years

How is that any different to playing has beens.

Nothing special about Gillard.

Better to offer Leo Thompson massive overs and a long contract than Gillard.

Nailed it on the head, Beath. Not sure what the attraction is with him. Broncos can have him.
We all tend believe something is going on if we hear the Dragons are linked in anyway by the different journalists.
What goes on behind closed doors is anyone's guess.
Buzz had Horsburgh as a done deal with the Dragons a few weeks back.
On the weekend, Flanagan said he had not even spoken to him yet.
Then you have player managers leaking fake news to other journalists.
With our season done and dusted, Flanagan can now go into full time recruitment and roster management mode, with two new middles the priority.
There will be plenty of free agents coming onto the market place in the short term, with the usual few surprises thrown in.
I think Flanagan would be working his way through a short list right now of players as the off season gets underway.

We should recruit players for the 2025 roster while developing the brightest prospects in our junior ranks. Remember the Sulivan and Amone situation. Nothing is assured and so we much look after the here and now as a priority.

Have I missed something?!
What is so f***ing great about RCG?
Penriff haven't looked back since he left. Parramatta, on the other hand... (Holds own nose)
I'm not saying that it's all his fault but ...geez. I reckon he's bloody ordinary. Justin Poore but with a big, stupid mo'.
He is not that great.

We are just worse.

Standards.

If we sign him and it’s announced on here suddenly “he’s great”.

Our club aims so low and then end up even lower.

This is a vicious cycle and we can’t get out.

We should have blooded those players this year rather then next year already 1 year into a re build I don’t want to struggle for another 2

I'm glad that if Flanno played hardball for 2 years instead of 3. It would really stuff up our planning with some very good juniors coming through. Players and managers are starting to realise that the Dragons are not the retirement team we used to be. We would all be very upset if these players blocked the pathways for our very promising juniors. and these guys are Dragons bred not money assassins.

Let the Broncos enjoy the services of both RCG & Barrett.
Really worked well for the Eels!
Flanno needs to concentrate on securing a bloody Recruitment Manager & wait for some other Middle Forwards that may fall from other clubs.

There have been whispers that P.Haas is not happy at the Broncos & wants a move away from Brisbane. Stand by for the Roosters & Dogs to bounce if that is true.

Would like RCG but 2 years MAX, some of the comments are ridiculous re “missing out”. Good on the club for handing firm on 2 years and thinking of the future instead of caving to a 3 year deal.
I'm as desperate as everyone for some quality front rowers - they're essential if we want to climb the ladder next season. However its good to see SF has a long term strategy for the squad to manage our cap wisely and not get stuck with bad deals just to get a deal over the line. If he's happy to walk away from deals then I presume he has a plan B and plan C.
We desperately need a lot more grunt up front so I hope he knows what he's doing. I'm hoping for some pleasant surprises over the off season......

On Brisbane Sen Q this morning listeners offerred a choice between RCG and Welch for the Broncs
Survey overwhelmingly in favour of Welch
Highly recomended from C Smith and Webcke for his leadership qualities
Webcke also high in his praise of Hetherington , who the Broncs are trying to offload
Re RCG
He needed to back himself on the 3rd year of a contract
Such a thing as a MO between He and the Club
Full Marks to Flanno for playing hard ball
Would def go after Welch and Wishart from the Storm
Hetherington from the Broncs
Land all Three...See Ya later Ben

This may not be popular with some but if it comes down to a future prop in DS or RCG I would prefer DS as is younger, hits the line hard front on (not with the hip) and I believe would cost a bit less and would be out to prove a point. Just my take although we may be looking elsewhere.

RCG or Welsh will cost more than Hetherington, so not sure how they can fit him under their cap. Unless they are moving on a big fish such as Haas which would be madness.

I don't necessarily disagree but I think RCG would've been good for us. As some have pointed out, he's not some special front rower, and we needed more to compliment him, but for our squad I think he would've been good. Now if the Broncs are offering him 3 years then that is just plain dumb, but I would have to assume it will also be 2 years.. meaning we just missed out because we were too slow and dumb in getting something done. D Saf does not improve us enough either, is known as a lazy trainer and player, and will not provide the same level of experience to our younger guys as someone like RCG. The sticking point for me with D Saf is this: the only front rower that will be going to market that improves us significantly himself is Leo Thompson, so he is who we desperately need. If we go back to the table for D Saf, all we do is help the Knights keep Thompson. There is now basically no one available to compliment D Saf in a front row partnership that improves us enough to be a threat. We will be no more than a team sitting between 6th-10th spot, whereas complimenting someone like Thompson with another decent front rower takes us higher up the table. D Saf + Thompson would be good, but considering they're from the same side, it won't happen. Knights will just end up keeping Thompson if D Saf signs anywhere else.

Glad to know you're in the inner circle and know what the circumstances were......
Or...........Maybe SF did what's best for the long term good for the club by not doing a bad deal? I wouldn't call that slow or dumb.
