Bulldogs have pulled out of the race for Hunt

very interesting to see what happens
IMO it’s Dolphins or staying with us cause Mam will get a slap because it’s Brisbane. BUT I think the issues coming out in the press this week make him staying with us difficult for want of a better word. I never thought Bulldogs were an option just Gus grandstanding as he does. Hunts problem is Flanno will not be dictated to by players or managers which Hunt has used over the last few years which is why he loved Hook. Interesting times ahead but as I said in my previous post Flanno/Dragons have the upper hand here not Ben Hunt OR his manager.

A halfback on loan is my least preferred option.. feel like we will be investing a year into a rookie that we get no longterm benefit from.. but if we cant jag an early release.. i spose its an option.

i.e. I would rather take a punt on someone further down the ladder.. on a 1-2yr contract.. and if it comes off we get the spoils.. not sure who is in that 'tier below' exactly... will still require an early release.

The potential upside of a deal like a loan for Pezet and getting a forward in return for Hunt is pretty high, and there isn't much downside.

The way I look at it there are no quality halves replacements for Hunt out there that are realistic bar Pezet. Players like Boyd, Illias, O'Sullivan, etc are no where near good enough no matter how we dress it up. Pezet is potentially one of the better halves of the future and will do a better job than others mentioned earlier whilst we search for another replacement with the added bonus of an extra year or two to do so. With the way Hughes is playing at Melbourne there is no reason currently they won't re-sign him. Pezet wants an option in his contract to leave Melbourne if Hughes is re-signed. If that eventuates, we would be in the box seat to keep him.

In the meantime, on a permanent deal, we have the potential to land a very good middle forward in exchange for Hunt. The loan + swap solves one issue longer term, and two issues short-term.

It's basically a guarantee you won't get the rewards you're looking for by doing a deal for Illias, Boyd or the like. They just aren't good enough players, which is why I wouldn't waste time there. Pezet improves us immediately, with the possibility of having him longer-term if Hughes is re-signed. If he ends up back at Melbourne after a loan, we would've been better off having Pezet for one/two seasons than having an Illias, Boyd, etc playing half because we then have more time to identify, talk to and recruit a better half who would be more likely to join us due to better play style and results with Pezet as opposed to the results that would be achieved with the other options in our halves.

Can anyone remember the days when slippery Morris was shifted to the wing to make way for Haddock, went there with no fuss and it was all about the team. Compare this to Mr Hunt and what he has done for the team and the club. There is no more disgusting look than having a Dragons captain FFS carry on like this. There is no way this guy should have any further representation for the Dragons. I do know what Flanno is doing, if Hunt goes he is going to make sure he gets something back in return. I believe he has put the onus on Hunts management to find the deal and make it acceptable. But certainly having him and his disruptive miserable ways around the club need to be gone, the sooner the better.
There was a point that I wanted to bring up, Hunt said the leak from his review was someone at the club, now this information about not wanting to come back to preseason apparently was only told to close friends and got leaked out, ok so where is the common denominator ? The sooner we are rid of this virus the better off everyone will be !!

Thats what I mean though.. Id rather chase someone slightly more of a gamble (seperate to hunts trade).. Boyd is actually a standout.. because I think hes a better player than people make out.. he could be a long-termer if it goes well... and I think the Titans will be paying a chunk of his salary.

We can still do the Hunt <> Forward trade seperately.. though tbh im not sure were gonna get some gun forward either.. this forward needs to be willing to leave qld and move interstate.. it probably ends up being a reserve grade fellow looking for opportunity.. unless we could jag 2 mid-range players perhaps..

What is going on? It is all very puzzling.

From the outside, this looks like some kind of hardball negotiation but if that is true, what outcome does Flanno want? Or has Flanno played himself here and is just being stubborn? That would be immature.

Let's consider the situation based on the little that we know.

1. Hunt has repeatedly asked to be released, so we are not out of pocket if we release him prior to Nov 1. That would give us his slot plus a lot of cap $. Good outcome in my opinion.

2. But if Hunt stays after Nov. 1, he gets 1/4 (?) of his salary. Not a small amount of $ and we get nothing for it if he still leaves.

3. Does Flanno in fact wants to keep Hunt for next year? Why? How will Hunt play? He might play well to get another contract elsewhere, but we can't be sure of that. Seems unnecessary and risky.

4. On Hunt's side, I would bet good $ that Hunt already has an offer he likes. This would explain why he is squirming and spitting like he is. And, the NRL being a small world, perhaps Flanno already knows this and feels he can use it as leverage.

5. I don't believe that player swaps are on the cards. Clubs can't just make players go to other clubs. Although agents might arrange it.

6. So why won't Flanno let him go? He is after some kind of win, I suppose, but what could it be?

Tigers just sacked this kid, a prop, from a 3 year contract. He debuted in round 15 and is only 19 y.o. but is 192 cm and....wait for it ...131 kg.

Boyd to Manly
It does sound like its happening, but nothing is locked in yet.. im sure if we offered him the 7 jersey he'd take it.. but we've had all year to do that and a potential trade with the GC... but we havent.. which makes me think Boyd is in that pool of players that for whatever reason... Flanno just isnt interested...

Why was he sacked
"It came after Tigers officials claimed he was late to training on two separate occasions.

Miller states that the most recent breach occurred due to extenuating personal matters. It is understood that he still attended the training session.

There are no allegations of any wrongdoing by Miller but it is understood that Police are involved in the matter."

The above from Daily Mail Australia.
