If you exclude Cleary/Moses... the golden era of established halfbacks like DCE, Reynolds, Townsend, Fogarty, Foran etc is coming to an end in the next few years... these guys are all a year or 2 off retirement.. Hughes still has a few more in him... but this is why clubs need to look at "unproven" potential halfbacks moving forward.. this is why Newcastle were willing to take the risk on someone like Brown.. Dolphins are in on Katoa etc..

There is no pool of 100%-locked-in-Future-NRL-Halves sitting around, you have to pick who you think can grow into the role.. whether thats Atkinson or Wishart or whoever.. and you gotta build em up, or build a team around em.
You forgot about Hunt Rev lol.

Bulldogs Gus still needs a 7 missed out on Hunt this year . Bulldogs Dragons in 2nd spot I would say Bulldogs this year a top 4 team would be his option.

I think Gus for sure would love DCE to partner Burton.. the only thing in our favour is can he find over 1mill a season. I mean tbh.. for a marquee like that he can probably do the pub share thing etc.. but the cash might be too high for the dogs.. where as we literally have nothing to spend our cash on.. but if its similar money and he wants to move back to brisbane.. we are no chance.. we would have to be paying overs.

If Dylan brown is worth 1.3m, DCE is easily worth over 1m. I hope Flanno goes after him we need a game managing half and he is arguably the best HB in the game right now. Hopefully Flannos Manly connection can help us, he will be invaluable to our young halves coming through

It wiĺl be 2-3 years before we have a junior ready, unless we think LKT is developing in that direction. Two years of DCE would fill the gap nicely.

He has a young family. He could move in just down the road from Gutho. Nice.

The whole DCE saga raises some interesting observations -
1. I dare say the key to getting DCE to sign is getting Mrs DCE to sign - hence why DCE said in relation to his decision 'people important to me are happy'.
2. He has told Manly he is definitely leaving - kudos to him as this helps Manly plan for 2026+. However, should he change his mind - it will cement him as the greatest hypocrite in the history of the game being a 2 time offender.
3. Manly should not lose too much sleep about his absence next year. At end 1976 they let their immortal Bozo Fulton go to the Roosters. They won the comp 2 years later.
4. The story broke in the SMH and he later appeared on the channel 9 Footy show (same owners). The NRL have had concerns with the quality of the Channel 9 coverage particularly it's commentating talent. Could Channel 9 be grooming DCE for a lead role and Channel 9 using this to curry favour in the upcoming rights negotiations??? DCE would hold gravitas with QLD audiences. This could also explain DCE's quote that he may not play next year.
5. The disparity between the initial Manly lowball offer and the supposed alternate offer has clearly hastened his decision making. Hence why he appeared quite relaxed about it.

Anyone noticed how Bwaif had the Laundys on NRL360 Bulldogfest last night. Never, ever seen that before. I wonder if all the other teams sponsors will get a go?. Wonder why Bwaif didn't ask him about his comment where he suggested that players be paid with shares in his hotels.
This is the reason why we can't compete. We are beaten in the backrooms before we even take the field.
NRL never investigated his comments

I’ve heard Flanno is gonna go in big for DCE , Roosters don’t wanna pay him as much as he is looking for and are confident in Walker and Sandon Smith

Only challenge would be dolphins
The sports dad of the year DCE has three daughters maybe 10,8,6 ish years of age

I suspect that DCE is being respectful due to his relationship with Flano but i cant see DCE moving his 3 daughters down to the Gong. I cant see him leaving the beaches unless a major opportunity with a club in a window to win a premiership...................unless he is being offered a major career opportunity post footy.......

ie ambassador, coach etc post career.......working with QRL and or Q SOO?

The amount of times i see DCE and his family at the beach and or at freshwater shops...........he and the family appear totally part of the community.

You would suspect DCE is also a strong chance for media post his career and his relationship with Hasler and maybe the Titans would be an interesting play if he wants to be back in Sth East Qld.

Given 3rd party deals are still unlimited that would be nice if we can "indirectly" make that happen...........but we cant be involved at all in those negotiations nor can any club.............but a lot of companies advertise with WIN if you know what i mean.

thanks BRig for the info
