We still have to find a suitor for Sloan though... or we have to pay for both (and use up 2 slots), maybe at best we get 250-300k for Sloan at another NRL Club.. honestly I hope he open to the ESL, because I think like Dufty & Field, he will be heaps happier over there, it will suit his style of game.. and he can actually thrive.

That said Cobbo could still be foxing about leaving Brisbane.. I think hes gonna have no choice but still some things need to happen for this to come off.

Geez. If they sign Cobbo I’ll have one tentative foot pointing in the direction of the sack Flanno camp.
Not a front rower. Not a half. Might have “focus” issues. I just don’t see the point.
This club does my head in.
I know everyone is entitled but utterly absurd post

We need to seriously get rid of some dead wood before we take on the possibility of another one. Rava, Lawrie, Sloan, Kyle, Ilias just to mention a few. 18 months yes I’d take him.

We need a half back what's wrong with sexton ? the dogs want to move him on he has to be better than we have now. I really don't understand what this club is doing. we could have king Togia, sexton and move Flanagan to lock.

Why the surprise at the negative comments? Cobbo adds nothing that we actually need. Maybe, maybe justified if we already had a great set of forwards and a great set of halves and we were looking for some icing on the cake in the outside backs. Maybe. Not to mention that he looks about as fit as Blake Lawrie at the moment - almost identical bulges in the front of the jersey. Plus the well known risk of his ability to stay focused on football. It’s cap money we can use elsewhere in positions that so obviously need improving.
I really hope it’s just media speculation because I’m SO over watching this club sign players that other clubs are happy to let go (not including Gutho in that list - he was an upgrade at fullback). I’m so over watching this club sign players that don’t actually improve the roster. I’m so over watching this club sign players that will ensure we stay stuck in the bottom 8 of the ladder.
My concern about Cobbo is for two reasons- 1 Wollongong is a long way from Cherbourg- his spiritual and cultural home where he goes for support from his extended indigenous family 2. He shows strong signs of mental health issues- particularly depression. He has looked and played disinterested in some of his recent matches and also appears puffy and overweight.
Bottom line, he is no Greg Inglis.

Just wanted to give my input on Cobbo signing for the Dragons...

Personally I think it is a great move for your club, he has had a bad year, maybe even a little bit longer but he has also shown some absolute class over the years and has been a very good player also hence why he has played for Australia and Queensland.

I think he needs a good stern coach to get him firing again, could that be Flanagan? Who knows? There is definitely a couple of leaders in your backline that will be doing their best to ensure he gets back to form though and if he does the Dragons appear very dangerous from a backline perspective at least with Holmes, Gutho and Cobbo lining up.

If I was the decisionmaker for my club I'd want Cobbo, maybe I'm wrong but we shall see, I hope he comes good for you all.

Whilst the Cobbo rumour is a strange one and I strongly agree he isn't the type of player we need right now, I can't say I'm surprised he is on Flanagan's radar as it is just another tell tale with of the piss poor recruitment under this coach.

At the end of last season we were in desperate need of forwards especially front rowers, yet our most notable recruits were a fullback, a dummy half and a winger.

Many give Flanagan credit for being patient/not paying overs for some of the front rowers we've been in negotiations with, but doesn't be love a good impulse buy when it comes to overpaid players who the club doesn't really need on the roster???

Ridiculous recruitment.

We will most likely drop the ball on this one until it's done it isn't done unfortunately.

Tom E retired also + Latu + we had 1 free for the Alpha we are yet to land (so should be 27/30 spots filled).

I think we will get thru this June 30 period, see if we can jag a couple of names... if not... we can look at either recruiting from outside the NRL, or upgrading another few juniors.... beyond that it will have to be 2026 signings we go after.

Note: We dont need Sloan to go to sign Cobbo... its just that there might be a chance to offload him pre june 30 also.. failing that we would try for end of year (assuming hes up for it). Cobbo would give us the fullback injury cover that we need Sloan for atm.

Sexton won’t have Preston , critter or kiraz outside him plus Mann and Heywood giving him ball.
I think we could do better

McGuire is the definition of stern. I've seen nothing from flano that would improve cobbo as a player.

Very promising news so far.

The club has made an approach which has the best outcome for both parties. The broncs don't want him, the cows only want him for this year and allows Cobbo to "settle in".

He walks into a winger position, cover for fullback and centre. Wendle did a great job and can't see why he would be any different.

If he feels it's important to return home, let him go home. Can't see that would be an issue with the club.
