FYI.
This was as per an interview aired on the radio this morning (possibly taped from the night before??).
This morning the Dolphins announce the signing of Cobbo.
Have been saying for many years now that you can never really believe what is said by club officials, coaches and players etc about player movements.
Just on a different note.
Kent saying De Belin was on $300K at the Dragons is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever heard.
closer to double ....

The pursuit of Garner doesn't excite me one bit nor do i think it makes sense he is 29 i would have thought chasing Hethrington would be a better option.
Just because the SMH say we are looking at Garner doesn't mean much to me.
We could have made a simple approach to his manager about what his plans are for the short term and left it at that.
A bit like all the media reports linking us to Cobbo.
Carryannis reported last weekend on the ABC that the Cobbo to the Dragons story was highly unlikely to proceed.

Instead of JDB we should have offloaded Moses Suli - a centre without footwork who cannot create an overlap, cannot set up a winger and has the worst try metric ever for a centre with over 150 games played.

This Garner stuff sounds like bullsh.t to me, probably spruked by his manager to create a market for his player now he's been told to bugger off by panthers. Wouldn't waste energy on it.

Obviously Cobbo was wanted by us but I'd say he was only interested in leaving QLD if someone was going to pay him silly money which we weren't going to do. I'm ok with that. I don't think his form warrants us paying mega bucks to get him. Would rather keep our powder dry for the big man Haas. Throw everything we've got at him and sort out a partner for Atkinson and we're a very different proposition.

Egan, Sua, Nick are surely the 3 2nd rowers we need, with Jacob as injury cover for 2026... Garner would give us some depth, and if we could find a way to use one of these guys in the middle to get them into the 17.. maybe.

I think its more that we are having no traction getting the positions we really need, so atleast its quality and/or depth of some description...

I'd have Ryan Couchman and Halangahu ahead of Nick. Halangahu has the most potential of any of our forwards and if we don't implement him in 2026 i reckon we are in danger of losing him as his contract ends in 2027. I think in 2 years Stanley-Trail will be ready for NRL as well when he's 21. We have to get rid of Leilua to keep the promising backrowers coming through.

Dragons offered peanuts again and his manager said your kidding.
This I don't understand.

1We have room in our cap and an excess of cash.

We are moving on Sloan and Rava.

We have some good outside backs coming through but they are young and inexperienced.

We a fullback to allow Gutherson to go to five-eighth in 2025.

We at least need a backup fullback for the next 18 months.

Cobbo was the perfect solution.

De Belin is playing well, and he has subsidies capped due to being a long-time local junior. We need an experienced forward to help guide the young junior forwards. Also, he had two years off due the 'no fault stand-down' policy.

De Belin is the exact forward we needed to retain for the next two years.

The person making these decisions does not know what is best for our club.

Jacob H is a must. I believe he could play edge or middle.
Stewart can play edge or middle.
T Couchman has been playing edge and middle.

We just got rid of De Belin who could play edge and middle.

We need three marquee players, a prop, a halfback and a fullback.

Listen again - Kenty didn't say it. It was Woz who is very close to JDB.
So unless Woz is lieing (why would he) - JDB was on 300K this year.
Best value player in NRL history.
I believe that is what the NRL charges on our salary cap for JDB. We would be allowed to top that up because he is a long-term junior. By the way, the Eels will have to pay the full freight with no discount as he is not a Parramatta long-term junior.

Nick T could make a good 17 as he can play edge forward and center.
