Just now on 100% footy nothing Dragons related specifically but worth mentioning.

Sandon Smith given permission to negotiate with rivals - in discussions with Canberra

Daine Laurie - Also told he won’t be resigned

gut feeling is that we will keep 2/3 spots open till Nov when we can really test the market.

At that time players contracted for 2026 may gain a release due to the Clubs prioritising another significant signing

More wiggle room

Thoughts ?

The comp is very wierd at the moment with numerous teams above us in very Bad form, and us and the roosters in good form. From 5-12 it really is a free for all. Sharks, Dolphins and manly in particular have been bad, and warriors have just scraped a couple of wins in their last 4-5 games but havent looked convincing. Parra also without a chance of making 8 look like they could cause a few upsets.

We could go for William (ESL) while at the same time find spots in the ESL that will take Laurie and Ravalawa. I think we have already given two wingers permission to test the market. BMM, De Belin, and Glover are moving on to retirement or other clubs.

Sanon Smith from the Roosters is another halfback available.

Sandon is young, so there's plenty of room to develop, but as it stands right now he is NOT the player we need. With Atkinson, LKT and potentially Smith... That's three 6s and no genuine 7s.

He is also super inconsistent and lacks a long, tactical kicking game which is what we desperately need. The gaps between his good games and his shockers are pretty big.

Completely agree. I really don't think a halfback is the #1 priority at present. Of course, if a true 'marquee" does become available, then yeah, have a crack, but there's no real marquee available. Smith is serviceable, but we have plenty of them already, he won't offer a point of difference. I very much doubt we will get involved in transfer fees etc, for an English half, especially one approaching his 31st birthday.

Our immediate priority is a prop and that's where our energy and focus should be on. TF would be an outstanding get, but it's a very 'dreaming' chance, but, dreams can become reality.

Its a hard one Sandon v Atkinson v LKT.. depends if we can find an actual out and out 7.. if not then Sandon strengthens us for 2026.. 1 of those could play 7... maybe in time one of those is our jarome hughes.... but we wont be thinking 1 year only... he would want a 3yr contract...maybe we wont even have a conversation.

DCE maybe a sliver of a chance if the roosters want out, but I cant see how it would work with him being promised a coaching gig @ the rorters..

Leaves us with nothing though.
