Even if Sua goes end of 2026... by March 2027.... there are 3 young 2nd rowers ready to go in Nick, Egan and Jacob with CST in tow.. 2 couchies can play there also.. its really the 'only' position we are genuinely well covered.
i agree but not at SOO level yet for finals type footy conditions
We need that level now
but they are serious emerging players and stoked we have them but still young and developing

Yet his replacement could only win 5 from the next 17. A lot of shitting the bed indeed.
His replacement was there when Saints and Souths suffered 13 top 30 squad injuries and debuted 8 players. You don't win games with that many newbies, no matter how good they are going to be. When Ilias was there in rounds 1 to 7, we were full strength. Anyway, let's agree to disagree.

I understand that Tyrell Sloan may be on the outer ( club n this forum). He has scored 47 tries in the NRL from 79 games. That is top level scoring rate. A number of tries are due to his blistering speed. Having that extra gear in a dash to the corner against cover defence is a great asset. So we off load him and keep slow wingers….ok.
I pinned so much hope on Tyrell when he first came into grade but he has just shot himself in the foot so many times. So. Many. Times.
He has speed, yes, but absolutely zero footy smarts and his defense has let him (and his teammates) down so much so that you can sometimes watch him and almost predict how he's going to stuff up.
And hard to believe but he's been in the NRL 5 seasons now - and has showed practically zero forward progress.
I like the kid and would dearly love him to succeed but if 5 seasons isn't enough time then how much is?
I defended him for a lot of his time in the first few years but I was wrong. Giving him a spot in an NRL team that's struggled for 7 years without a finals appearance simply because he can run fast seems ridiculous to me. Speed is useless to us if he can't tackle or make a smart decision when he's on the field.
Maybe he'll come good. Maybe. But 5 years doing exactly the same things on a regular basis leads me to agree with the club that maybe it's wise to give up and let another team take him on.
Personally I'd rather a slower winger who makes his tackles, catches the ball reliably and gains good yardage out of our territory - three things a good winger does and 3 things that Tyrell kind of sucks at.....
And if he does get a chance this year and finally kills it - I'll be ecstatic for him - but I can't see it happening.

Lomax leaves at the end of last season. We then let Tamale leave, followed by Finau, this is all on the back of knowing that Sloan was not up to it. We now go out and buy two reserve grade wingers in Fale and Setu.
I think we have snookered ourselves here a bit, we probably need Sloan around, if not to cover wing, but to cover fullback. Who steps up if Gutho is injured? We are extremely thin in the outside backs. Very poor list management from the Dragons.

Every post the dragons do on socials there’s always someone mentioning no sign of Blake lawrie in photos. Anyone have an update? Have we finally moved him on? Or is he injured

I understand Lomax left mid contract. We could have forced him honour his contract and stay with us. Let's not forget, forcing a player stay does not always work out and sooner or later you have to let them go (EG Hunt).

Regarding Finau and Tamale, they made the decision to leave. How can we force somebody to stay if they want to leave for whatever reason. Australia is a democracy and we cannot force players to stay. We also get players from other teams.

Tamale wanted to stay and wanted a shot on the wing and stated if Lomax was leaving he wanted to stay
Flanno said he is not ready
Someone else thought he was ready
That someone else was right

Bostock and Sloan seemed to come into the NRL roughly the same time. Saints clearly made the error in letting Bostock go and keeping Sloan. It should have been the other way around.

Agree with you @since77 was really hoping Sloan would be a future star at the Dragons but he has had way too many chances to improve his defence and nothing has really changed. Only thing Flanno can do now is leave him in KOE and only bring him up if he improves his defence significantly for a long run of games.

Not even the Perth Bears are showing interest in Lawrie and Sloan which they know would be easy targets to fill slots yet are not even talking to them. Anyway, 1 more year and they will be gone.

This year will be huge for Sloan, Lawrie, Guler and Luciano. If they have their usual standard seasons this could be their last run in the NRL. They need to step up. Unfortunately for Luciano , I can see him stepping up and having the odd standout performance and getting an extension, but then going back to his lazy ways.

Joseph O’Neill has joined us
This does create an interesting paradox.
Our halves would then be
Atkinson, KFlan, LKT, Reed, O'Neill and Ah-Kee Quinn and Hammoud.
Ah-Kee is still some years away, but expect him to get a few games in Flegg after the Ball season finishes.
Atkinson and KFlan are supposedly a lock-in for at least the start of '26.
That would leave Reed, LKT, Quinn and d Hammoud and O'Neill for Cup duties.
It does add depth but not sure O'Neill would come off a recently signed upgrade to top 30 at the Bulldogs just to play Cup (again) even though we probably have signed him to a top 30 deal. What would be the advantage?
