#3 - Matthew Pavlich
#4 - Jonathon Brown

I swear to god, this man gets stupider every year.

I mean seriously.

I could name 5 St Kilda & West Coast players who I'd rather have at Richmond than that soft c**k from Fremantle.

Hall at number 1?
Cornes in the top ten?
Ball & Hird ahead of Hodge?
Dal Santo & Akermanis so low?
McPhee so high?
Wells & Bolton in the 50?
Some players falling out because of injury, while others go up the list?
Some players having a better year than the one before, but falling significantly down the list?

Judd's the overrated one.

Pavlich should have been at 1 with Brown at 2.

What more do you want?

He takes contested marks up forward, kicks goals, can run with the best of them out of the centre if needed, can more than hold his own in defence.

Was the gun player with the Avalon Alligators last year, and will be again in Supercoach, hence my decision to name him captain.

He goes limp when the side is being beaten.

That's why he is not the best player in the game.

He is a front runner who most of the time kicks junk time goals when his team is in front.

If Richmond were 20 points down midway through the last in a GF, he would be the last player i'd look for to drag the team back into the game.

Couldn't care less what he does when his team is winning.

Jonathon Brown and James Hird before him and Wayne Carey before that are three players who are the prime examples of what you want from such a forward. These three guys are the best players my generation has seen, bar none. & it's no coincidence that these 3 have been the key players in most premiership sides over the last 10 years.

Pavlich couldn't even contemplate getting onto his knees to tie their laces.

Fairly good list but you have to have rocks in your head to NOT put Judd at no1!

Why?

Judd is the most overrated footballer in VFL/AFL history.

That doesn't mean he is a dud btw, all it means is that the media hype that absurdly positions him at roughly the same level of import as Leigh Matthews when he was in his prime, is laughable in the extreme.

If his disposal was above average, there may be a stronger argument for him.

The gun talls like Pavlich & Brown will always be your money men.

Still, I'm happy for the media to keep pumping up Judd's tyres if it keeps him in WA. His price goes up to astronomical levels as the Eagles fend off interest from other clubs, Judd's price reaches astronomical levels, and the Eagles end up costing themselves another gun on their list.

Its all good.

Remind me again how many premierships Judd has led the Eagles too?

It is not Judd's fault that he does not have a foward line that is even barely capable! I'm surprised they did as well especially with Lynch in the forward line!

Midfielders win games, thats why! Judd is the very best of a top bunch of midfielders hence he is no1 most valuable player in the league. Pavlich would be lucky to be top 5 for mine. He doesn't have the aura that Rievolt, Brown, or Tredrea do anyway. But I'd still have Judd 1 and possibly hall as 2 (only becuase he was very important last year)

No, midfielders put you into games, but its forwards who win or lose you games. This is why Hawthorn invariably gets an even or greater share of the football, but loses more games than it wins. Its also why a side like the Eagles will always struggle in big games.

Judd is only considered the pre-eminent midfielder because the media swoon over him and the general footballing public follow the media like sheep.

He is an ordinary mark of a football, has average disposal skills, and is largely a one trick pony (its just that the trick is a good one). He isn't even the best midfielder at West Coast.

He was about the 9th best footballer in the year he won the Brownlow, had little genuine impact on last year's GF (through constantly missing targets) when he won the Norm Smith, and made a mockery of the goal of the year, which was well behind numerous candidates.

For what its worth, my top six would run:

1) Matthew Pavlich
2) Jonathan Brown
3) Nick Reiwoldt
4) Barry Hall
5) Justin Kozitschke
6) Warren Tredrea

Agreed there, in fact I'd take a few before Pavlich who goes missing when the going gets tough!

Yeah...

He really went AWOL with his 13 marks and 28 possessions when it was tough and tight at Shell Stadium for Freos breakthrough win against the Cats last season.

He'd comfortably be the first player selected at Richmond & Essendon (most likely every club in the competition).

Fremantle won the game ... Not tough at all. He's a front runner, plain and simple.

If you would take Pavlich before Brown at Hawthorn, you are dead set kidding yourself Kev.

It was as tight as buggery all game and they won it because Pavlich (as he mostly does) dominated his opponent.

Not at all.

Pavlich is younger, will kick more goals, can play more positions, is more disciplined and less injury prone.

Pavlich is the type of player you build a side around.

& Brown is the type of player that wins you premierships ... The overated pansy from Fremantle can't even get his team to the finals...
