The Shire reacts to 'The Shire'

Reactions to Channel tens new show, 'The Shire' have been powerful, particulary in the titular town itself.
The Dailytelegraph reports: While The Shire pulled a modest audience of 913,000 nationally, Twitter blazed with criticism during its 40-minute premiere -- slammed for its superficiality, dialogue and negative stereotypes.
Sydney viewers were especially taken by the series, posting a record 20,427 tweets according to We Are Social Australia data.
'It saddens me that Australian TV has come to this. We wonder what's happening to our children yet crap like this is on at 8.30. ?#theshire,' wrote basketballer and Australia's highest-paid sports star Andrew Bogut.
Ruby Rose tweeted: 'Ok. I'll never watch that again.'
Today host Lisa Wilkinson wrote: 'I have been sitting in front of the TV with my mouth wide open for 10 minutes. Like, totally.'

Meh, Australian TV stopped being entertaining over a decade ago.

British comedy is the only stuff I'll watch, reality TV is for f**kwits with no social life whatsoever and need to have some justification to park their fat arses in front of the TV.

Well luckily for me, I didn't watch it, but mine would've been something more like this...

I mean, I've found myself recently watching lots of clips from Fast Forward/Full Frontal/Late Show/The Comedy Company and keep thinking to myself "This is COMEDY". Also, another pivotal factor why FF was successful wasn't just because it was funny, but the cohesion amongst the cast members and the characters (both parodys of real people and fictitious characters) that the audience could relate with. I was discussing with a friend the other day on this topic and out of all the myriad of sketch comedy programs I've seen from Australia/UK/US, I still adhere that the Full Frontal cast of 1995/96 was the most talented. Shaun Micallef (one of the most underrated comedians in this country. Sadly, his style of humour isn't appreciated here. A topic for another thread), Eric Bana, Kitty Flannigan, Glenn Butcher....fantastic combination.

FF lost it when they stopped parodying ads.

The Ronny Johns half hour had some good skits. Unfortunate it got dumped after 1 series. It was better than most rubbish on tv. I don't watch tv from Monday to Thursday anymore.

My favourite skit from Ronnie Johns Half Hour, still funny after all these years.
