The Simpsons is still consistently fantastic.

It's become vogue to say that the new episodes "aren't funny" but it's still light years ahead of the overrated muck that is The Family Guy and American Dad.

I agree on Family Guy, which I believe tries to shock you with stupidity.

But American Dad! is one of the most under-rated animated shows going around. It's humour is classier, smarter and at times more subtle than Family Guy's.

As for The Simpsons - the new episodes SUCK. But the older, classic episodes are still the greatest. Of any animated show. Ever.

They were one offs though. I don't believe they were ever intended to become regular characters when they first appeared in the series. To me it just looks like they ran out of ideas and had to try and had to bring back an old joke.

Rich texan would have been in at least 10 episodes, possibly closer to 20 odd..

Mostly the new ones.

Another example is that guy who says "YEEEES" in that weird voice. Seems to be popping up everywhere now. Got old after about the second time.

I think the Crazy Cat Lady was a great choice for a repeat character.... mainly because with every use of her they always tried to show more depth.

I particularly loved the episode with the British bloke producing the 30 year documentary on various people in springfield which ends up telling her life story. Brilliant touch.

What is wrong with characters that were little more then bit parts originally becomming more main characters?

South park went a bit stale then made characters like butters and Co more regular and it became funny again..

I fail to see what is wrong with it..

I already said whats wrong with it - they aren't as funny as the classic characters. If they were as funny as characters such as Moe, Comic Book Guy, Lenny etc. then I'd have no problem.

The new Simpsons have undoubtably gone downhill but its been happening for a long time seasons 3 and 4 were perfection and impossible to top.
Now there is too much Homer getting hurt instead of solid storylines.
It's still a million times better then Family Guy seriously Peter Griffin is the unfunniest piece of sh*t ever to be seen on tv

Butters has depth.
Cat Lady does not.

Yeah, it was brought up before. The Simpsons classic humour just changed to focusing on Homer doing stupid things/getting hurt. They had a great balance of that in earlier episodes but then it just got lame

After seeing that opening title for The Simpsons, my thoughts are that it isn't a new one that will replace the old one, but -like the first episode after the movie- I personally think that it is a one-off. I hope so too. I liked it okay, but would prefer the old 'classic' one instead.

?

this is an appropriate post now, and would have been 5, 6, 7 years ago. The show will always have my respect and a place in my heart as I grew up with it but its just not funny anymore, consistently anyway.

I agree, although if they did use it as a new intro i wouldnt mind too much.

The one thing i really didnt like about it though was that they have upgraded their TV from the old purple box with rabbit ear antenna to a flat panel LCD or plasma (before you say it, yes im aware that the whole thing is to celebrate their graduation to HD). But the Simpson family has always been the lower-middle class family who was always a step behind the times with technology or popular culture, we all remember when they got their first computer (homer tying it to the back of his car and dragging it home from the shop). There was Marge making home made pepsi in giant jugs for Lisa to take to her school dance, "its a little thick but the price is right".

I guess i just dont think it fits well that we see them take this step, even if its just an intro, i'd expect to see Homer to try to build one of his own.

What depth does butters have??

He is a wuss kid with sh*tty parents who gets things shoved up his butt a lot. Refers to it as his "behind" for humour.

he is funny, but I hardly call him a deep character. In fact, i'd say NO character in South Park has any depth. Its not that kind of show. It doesn't aim to be funny for 3 year olds and 73 year olds alike. It offers humour on one level, and for that reason people either love it or hate it.
