I haven't watched new Simpsons in years.

Starting watching the latest season. Kinda sad how bad it's gotten.

The Simpsons have had it's moments. There have been a few dreadful episodes like The Lastest Gun in the West. That was the episode where Bart looked up to that cowboy who had a drinking problem. That was so bad. Most episodes around that period of time sucked.

I thought fox were going to let them die so they could take the show into sindication and stop paying voice actors millions an episode for a show that is long past it's use by date?

I watched every episode up until season 20... But I simply cannot watch the later ones. There are some funnies there, and in a vacuum it's still funnier than most garbage pumped out these days (the show with the 2 fat merkins that are married for example) but when you know where it's come from its just sad.

Why they could pump out 25 seasons of this but only give us 6 of futurama has got me beat

I'm sure the Simpsons, even the last 3 seasons, does by a country mile but I've no idea why.

Then again the Cleveland show probably makes more than futurama and that is a steaming pile of vomit so it's not that surprising

Sad that now I think the ratio has gone to the side of "more bad than good".

Love love looooove first 7-8 seasons, so fresh. Simpsons used to influence pop-culture, now it takes it off. Fallen too far from the tree. I've probably watched maybe 10 new episodes in the last 5 years.

About 70-80% of all funny things said by anyone aged in their 20s or 30s is likely a direct quote or heavily influenced by the first 10 seasons of the Simpsons.

huge fan of the first 10 seasons, some decent episodes in the next few seasons, after that I find it hard to watch because i'm constantly comparing it to the first 10.

meh, really though, I could say a similar thing for just about every cartoon show I like... eventually, for me, they get to the point where their new episodes can't compete with their classics any more.

i've got the first 10 seasons on DVD, I think i'm going to whip them out this summer... it's been too long, far too long.

Pretty much that. First ten seasons or so is generation defining TV show (and probably my favourite TV of all time, absolutely brilliant). Has faded alot since then unfortunately

Futurama is far superior.

I thought fox were going to let them die so they could take the show into sindication and stop paying voice actors millions an episode for a show that is long past it's use by date?

There will be a seventh season of Futuram airing next year.

I've seen maybe 4 or 5 Simpsons episodes (new or repeat) in the past few years. I grew up on them (I'm 30) and loved the show from Season 1 to maybe 12/13. I continuted to watch and enjoyed for a further few seasons ... then I just fell away. Partly through circumstance (working mostly), and partly because I didn't care so much. The stories were beginning to get repetitive (how many times can Homer get fit/muscley?), and the jokes old and tired. The kinda 'joke' I'm thinking of in particular is where Homer has two contrasting emotions about something and just reacts between them both back and forth several times within a few seconds.

I'll still watch the show if I'm able to watch it and it's on, but yeah, like others have said, it should have been retired years ago.

The new episodes of Futurama have the be the worst ever created. IMO Futurama lost it ever since it came back on it. When the show was cancelled, it was brilliant. They killed it when it was hitting it's peak, and it hasn't been the same ever since.

Sad really.

I read this book a few years ago which defined 3 periods - something like the early years, the golden age (~ seasons 4 to 8), and then the long plateau. There should be a 4th period, the steady decline. The newer episodes are still OK in parts and better than about 90% of stuff on the telly at the moment, but the golden age is where it's at. Fox 8 know it, and their Super Simpsons on Sunday is basically all stuff from the golden age (and also the early years).

I too have seasons 1-10 on DVD, and I'm in no screaming hurry to add to it for now...
