Anyone who takes Grant lightly is in for a shock.

I like him. He's a hard, ruthless, seasoned campaigner who knows how to get the best outcomes. Best off all, he won't be swayed by junk media or pushed in to anything.

He's a strong leader. I really couldn't care less if he's a Prima Donna.

He won't let the game be low balled. So good to finally see someone in the game who isn't a media companies bitch.

here here!

When News LTD did all their wheeling and dealing in an attempt to put a sympathetic IC board in place, they took their eye off the ball by allowing Grant on there.

The magical figure is $1 billion, although that may be conservative if the commission decides to look for a longer deal than the expected five years. Grant confirmed that the length of the next deal was flexible.

:sarcasm:

$1 billion over 5 years is conservative if they decide to sign a 6 or 7 year deal for $1.1 Billion??

If they sign a deal for longer than 5 years they are even bigger fools than we thought....

I especially like this bit, when referring to a deadline of November 1.

"we have contingencies beyond that"

Fair dinkum. I'd have loved to have been a fly on the wall when Channel 9 were in talking to him, expecting him to just say "Yes, Sir. Thankyou Sir" like they've always done to weak livered execs and old mates that have had the reins in the past.

This next deal and the way its being negotiated will finally take us past the f**k ups of the past by Dinosaurs like Arthurson who were too f**king stupid, pig headed and ignorant to realise the world was changing and when the shit hit the fan, he basically sucked Packer off to save his arse. We're still paying for his short sighted ways now, in the form of Ch 9.

End it John Grant. I want to see the looks on the faces of the AFL and Foxtel and the merkins at 9 when we finally stand up for ourselves and get power for the game.

The Tele have probably just taken Grant out of context and what he's alluding to is the possibility of maybe going it alone on FTA for a couple of years if Fox put in a low-ball offer.

NBC snags Olympics through 2020
By Charles Riley @CNNMoney June 7, 2011: 3:46 PM ET

NEW YORK (CNNMoney) -- The Peacock is shelling out a whopping $4.38 billion for the rights to broadcast the Olympic Games through 2020.

The International Olympic Committee announced Tuesday that it has awarded U.S. broadcast rights to NBCUniversal for the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi, Russia and 2016 Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

NBC will also broadcast the 2018 and 2020 Olympic Games from cities yet to be determined. The 2018 Winter Games will be awarded next month at a committee meeting in Durban, South Africa.

The deal, valued at $4.38 billion, cuts across all media platforms, including free-to-air television, subscription television, Internet and mobile. NBC outbid rivals ESPN and Fox for the rights.

"We are delighted to have reached an agreement with our longstanding partner NBCU," said IOC President Jacques Rogge. "We received three excellent bids and would like to thank each broadcaster for their presentations. In the end, we were most impressed with NBCU."

By the time 2020 rolls around, NBC will have broadcast a total of 17 editions of the Games, beginning in 1964. They don't always turn a profit.

The most recent broadcast from Vancouver, in 2010, resulted in a loss of almost $200 million.

The future of NBC's Olympic broadcast were thrown into doubt in May when Dick Ebersol resigned as chairman of the network's sports group after 22 years.

Ebersol was best known for overseeing NBC's coverage of the Olympic Games. After producing coverage of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, he then secured the rights to broadcast every Summer Games since, including next year's London Olympics.

In addition, the winning bid from NBC is the network's first since cable company Comcast (CMCSA, Fortune 500) and industrial conglomerate General Electric finalized a deal to merge Comcast's cable networks with GE's NBC Universal entertainment unit.

Comcast CEO Brian Roberts said in a statement he was excited by NBC's continued involvement.

"We are honored to continue as the U.S. Olympic broadcaster for the remainder of this decade. The vision for our new Comcast-NBCUniversal was to create new platforms and technologies to distribute the very best content," he said. To top of page

2006 NRL and Foxsports negotiations.

"David we have two seats for you ,one you sit on when you negotiate the NRL side, and the other seat to sit on when you negotiated for the fox side".

Now said Kim Williams "David have we an offer for you.We have decided to be so generous to have the contract extend for 6 years, instead of the usual 5."That shows just how much we are committed to rugby league".

David sitting in the Fox chair "Wow that means a guarantee of money for 6 years instead of 5 ".

Hops over to the NRL chair .Ä record offer for Australian sport when ch9 is taken into account and for 6 years".Kimmy baby you got a deal."

Press conference held .We achieved a record deal for 6 years, the biggest in Australian sport.Much back slapping.Estimates of just over $500m for 6 years.

A few months later AFL press conference,"Vlad" oh we just secured a 5 year deal for a mere $780m." Told the Tv stations, take it or leave it".

Moral of the story, sucker punches land when you least expect them.

Thank goodness Grant is letting professionals handle the Tv deals ,and thank goodness he is playing hard ball and not rushing it,to please some dope working for the Daily Bugle.I also want the new CEO to show authority and business nouse. If it takes time ,so be it.

Good stuff, he sounds like we got the right man for the job!

I especially like the way he has shafted Rothfield by giving him a yes, no telephone interview then the next day invting the Australian into his office for a sit down in depth interview. Bet Rothfields glowing cheeks just got a whole lot redder :)

With Nines debt maturation creeping closer, for me the patient approach is very, very positive.

As long as they have the cash flow to cover the interim, then we are laughing.

Im liking Grant more and more.
