Looks like they are going to trial Sunday night live games with a 5.30pm KO in Perth 7.30Pm show on East coast. Would Sunday night live rate well?

If they moved MNF to Sunday night football with a 6.30pm kickoff it would be perfect.

Off topic but Nein's Olympic coverage is as bad as their RL coverage. It's all pre-recorded and shown randomly in between heaps of ads. Not only that but they show the same stuff on Gem as on Nein instead of utilising it to show two different things. Lucky there's 8 channels on Fox that show stuff live and with no ads.

But they do have one of those other Ch 9 atrocities in Ray Hadley, and he is living up to every single racist, sexist stereotype he has. Not to mention he's doing it with Rebecca Wilson.

NRL planning Sunday night footy comeback
THE NRL is planning to play up to 10 matches each season on Sunday nights - three of them beamed in from Perth.
NRL management is looking to play a Sunday twilight game every two or three weeks, kicking off at 6.30pm.
Some Sunday evening games would be played before traditional Monday public holidays and during the daylight savings months.
It is understood the Sunday night game would be moved from one of the Saturday 7.30pm timeslots. NRL officials believe the Sunday evening game would attract healthy television ratings and would not jeopardise the weekly Monday night match.
"We've also considered looking to daylight saving and holiday weekends to create further Sunday twilight games," NRL interim chief executive Shane Mattiske confirmed.
Another weekend timeslot would help the NRL convince television networks to shell out the $1 billion it wants for the broadcast rights.

The three commercial stations seeking rugby league - Ten, Nine and Seven - are keen to discuss Sunday night matches. The AFL already plays Sunday nights.
The success of last weekend's game between Manly and New Zealand in Perth has only increased the NRL's desire for more games there, with officials eyeing three matches a season.

Does anyone know how far out the games can be scheduled for the NRL?

With all the Nine losers in London they have forgotten to select games for Round 25. Surely they can't sit on this much longer.

I can't book flights yet (sharks @ storm)- and it's less than 3 1/2 weeks till the Friday game of Round 25.

Will be a 3:30pm ko in Perth which will be nice time to watch a game during winter months. Might be a bit warm early season.

Only problem is who on the east coast will want to watch a Perth tram play. Plan will only work before the new team comes in

Yeah, I see that as a bit of a flaw in the logic of the Sunday night game. If it is Perth every 2nd week, it will get a bit stale, especially if they are not performing.

As others have said though, they could mix it up with different clubs playing on Sunday night if their area has long weekend. I think Sunday night is preferable to Monday night.

The sunday twilight game up here against the storm got a good crowd (21k from memory), mind you there was a public holiday the next day (easter) but still, the NRL should make that game a tradition up here????

There will have to be some Sunday night games that east coast teams play at 6:30pm on non public holiday weekends. Probably something like 10 Perth games, 5 public holiday games and 11 non ph games with east coast teams kicking off at 6:30pm. NRL needs to work hard on looking at which clubs would draw best in that time slot and schedule those games.

The Sunday 7:30 game could be done if the draw was fiddled a bit.

Assuming season would start same as this year and still 24 matches

12 West Coast Pirates matches (kick off 5:30 local, 7:30 eastern)
4 Brisbane Broncos/Qld matches during daylight savings (kick off 6:30 local, 7:30 eastern)
2 Regular season matches moved to Adelaide, although not ideal (kick off 7:00 local, 7:30 eastern)
2 Regular season matches moved to Darwin, although not ideal (kick off 7:00 local, 7:30 eastern)

Then either four slots where we'll have 7:30pm kickoffs in NSW/Qld/Vic or four slots with no Sunday Night game.

It's unlikely to be every week unless 10 gets the rights and even then a regular sunday night slot would only after the 9th game occurs.

If it's on Foxtel it will be every 2-3 weeks as stated.

If it's on 7 or 9 (likely simulcast) then it will only be 3-4 of the 10 games per season that are broadcast on F2A - in order to fit between other programs when they go on break (Easter, season schedule etc). The rest would be on Foxtel.

Expect as a minimum though at least 3-4 Sunday Night games as of next year on F2A.
