Yeah I think it was worked out early in the season that the Fox Footy numbers aren't all extra viewers, just the current ones spread differently.

Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

some of them would be

but adding them on gives a false picture seeing the ratings for pay TV aren't restricted to metro areas

Every local team game is on FTA for AFL (apart from Victorian clubs). The NRL need to get the same done (but apart from Sydney based clubs instead because Melbourne Storm games should be on FTA in Victoria and live if its an away game or sold out home game).

Actually thought about this on the weekend. How does it work for gold coast, are they included in brisbane metro for tv purposes?

I guess the only way it can happen is if fox simulcast all games, then the FTA provider puts it live into the regional market? Interesting how it would work for the dragons, should all of their games be broadcast in Illawara but sydney based fans of the SAME club miss out, doesn't seem fair.

Whoever gets the rights will need to come up with new ways to make money off them to cover the premium they'll be paying.

Probably would never happen, but a great idea would bee all games on fta and simulcast, however the network can't show them in the area they're played until a certain number of tickets have been sold.

If you have fox, you get them all, you don't and you want to watch the game, you get your lazy arse to the game.

Big games would definitely get played, and the smaller games would get bigger crowds. Might be an incentive for the networks to advertise tickets if they want the game played, etc.

Things are looking good for channel 10 to go for the whole FTA component. They have been banging on about investing in new content offerings, and raising capital to do so. The share offering yesterday raised about 200m to pay down 80m in debt and get some liquidity for just that.

The big question is, can Warburton get any league around Channel 9s first and last bid rights.

Last weekends round was embarrassing.

I know the weather was f**ked, but we can't put up with 50000 for 5 games

One disadvantage of a national comp where 14 of the 16 teams are within a 1200km radius is that when " it rains it pours if you will excuse the pun

Afl can have floods in melbourne play 2 games at the dome and have sell outs in Perth and Adelaide
