Will be interesting to see what the ratings for tonight's Origin will be. If the decider at Suncorp is a close one (unlikely the blowout that happened in the first 30 mins of last year's decider), I think we could get at least 2.8 million across the 5 metros and will easily break 4 million nationwide. Nevertheless, it will give the AFL GF a run for its money

a run for its money ?:?

Game I was nearly 500K more then the 2011 AFL GF
even thats giving it a hammering , not a run for its money

we should be in the early 4 millions for game III
that is plastering that vicky kicky garbage GF ... to the wall ;-)

I know that SOO downgrades the NRL comp for about 6-7 wks every season,& i can understand fans of clubs affected being upset.
But ,if the ratings continue like they do then as a whole RL will be far better off.
A few $$ figures have been mentioned for what 3 SOO games are worth,& if you take into account that One game ratings equals about a whole week of AFL games then you are talking serious money..
I think the money generated is a huge bonus to the game ,& can only strengthen RL .
PS ,my club (Cows are affected probably more than others),but i can see the upside of having a huge rep season.

Will not get $1 Billion, despite what Masters and the fine people of LU say. Don't believe the hype. TV newtorks can see right through that. This myth is being perpetrated by a guy called Doc Brown on LU. Apparently some sort of insider. Hillarious. His expertise stated that AFL would be lucky to get $800 million last time. And everyone is going by him.

Doc has managed to get up the nose of a lot of Victorians....Good work!

If a Billion is a myth its being perpetrated by 66.01% of LU members looking at the poll.

That thread seriously seems to attract the most insane fumblers.
Some of them are contradicting themselves within their own posts...

Bigfooty guys, COME AT ME!

But anyway, is there any time frame on this deal? doesn't it have to be sorted by November 1? I just want this to be sorted so I can watch the channel 9 hate campaign when they lose it.

Origin breaks tv records again

NRL.com Thu, Jun 14, 2012 - 3:24 PM

The biggest Sydney audience in the history of OzTAM ratings for any program on the Nine Network has celebrated the NSW VB Blues’ stunning 16-12 victory over the XXXX Queensland Maroons at ANZ Stadium last night.

An average Sydney audience of 1.199 million viewers on the Nine Network tuned in as the VB Blues forced a series-deciding match in front of a record crowd of 83,110 fans – the biggest attendance at a Sydney Origin since the reconfiguration of ANZ Stadium following the 2000 Olympics.

The OzTAM ratings, introduced in 2001, recorded the largest Sydney audience in Harvey Norman State of Origin history and placed last night’s match as the third highest rating program in Sydney ever across all networks.

A national average audience of 3.865 million viewers tuned in across the Nine, WIN and NBN networks, the second largest audience in Origin history after Game 1 of this year’s series (3.957m).

Across the five capital cities on Channel Nine, 2.495 million average viewers tuned in – again the second highest in Origin history after Game 1 of this year’s series (2.515m).

Across Regional Australia, the match was also the second highest rating Origin match ever, with an average audience of 1.370million.

The match was the most watched in Origin history in Melbourne, with a record average audience of 370,000 viewers, and the highest rating Game 2 in history.

It was an outstanding result for a remarkable game,” ARL Commission Interim Chief Executive, Mr Shane Mattiske, said today.

“Origin keeps setting new benchmarks in Australian sport with the series selling out in every state and setting new ratings records with each match.”

Nine Network Managing Director, Mr Jeffrey Browne, said: “The contest was as great as the concept.

“We salute the players, the best in the world, and their coaches Ricky Stuart and Mal Meninga, who do so much to promote Origin.

“It doesn’t get any better. Personally, I’m so proud of our commentators and crew – and how they put together a record-breaking broadcast to once again confirm Nine’s commitment to the great game of Rugby League.”

Game 3 of the 2012 Harvey Norman State of Origin Series will be played at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on Wednesday, July 4.
